閱讀短文, 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

You want to know about my stay in America, fight? Well, to tell you the truth, it is really an eye-opening experience to study here. In China, I had English classes five times a week since Grade Five. However, I didn’t know how different textbook English could be from everyday English until I came to Hotchkiss School Connecticut. When I first studied English, I was told to say. “I’m fine. ”when people say “How are you?” but in the US, I found that people say, “I’m good. ”or “I’m tired. ”O(jiān)ne day, someone greeted me with “What’s up?” It made me confused(迷惑的). I thought for a moment and then smiled because I didn’t know what to say. Since then, I have discovered more and more differences between Chinese and US cultures. To my surprise, US girls spend a lot of time in the burning sun to get a tan(褐色). However, in China, girls try every possible way to get their skin paler, or “whiter”. I was also surprised to know how hardworking US students are. In China, Schoolwork is almost everything, so we study and that’s it. But here, a “good” student gets good grades, does a lot for the public and plays sports or music. The kids here are so talented. I am starting to feel sorry that I gave up playing the piano at an early age and that I have never thought about sports.

1 Where is the writer at the moment?

2 Did the writer answer the question “What’s up?”

3 Why do US girls spend a lot of time in the burning sun?

4 What is a “good” student like in the US?

5 What does the writer mainly talk about?

閱讀短文, 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容, 從短文后的五個(gè)選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有一項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)

Thirty years ago, I walked into a bakery and asked for some bread to sell. At that time. I was 12 years old. __1___She gave five loaves of bread and wished me good luck.

I took the bread and went out to sell them. It took me all day, but I sold them all. __2__I was the happiest boy in the world as I walked home that evening.

Today I still work in the delivery business. I have a truck to send goods all over the country. I live in a beautiful house, but I don’t ride a bicycle these days. I drive a large nice ear.

When I was a child, my mother often told me, “Don’t run around, or bad uncles will grad(抓。 you. And you know what? You will never see Mum and Dad again.”

“Why, Mama? Why would these uncles grab me?” I would ask. “The city is a dangerous place and we don’t trust any strangers, ”she would reply.

Well, that might answer the question of why my second brother never picks up calls from an unknown person either on his mobile or his home phone. It seems that he doesn’t care if he misses an important call. because he thinks that all unknown calls are from bad persons.

So, have we given too much protection to our young kids? Perhaps it is so. But the adults’ thoughts are indeed easy to understand. The kids meet swindlers sometimes as we adults tell them. Also they get some news about cheating(欺騙) in newspapers or on TV every day. That makes the kids believe that they just cannot trust strangers.

Let’s look at an example from everyday life. Say, if someone carrying a wooden stick(棍子) comes nearer to you, will you try to run away at once even before he or she starts talking to you? Will you guess this person’s intentions(意圖) and think that he or she wants to rob(搶劫) you of something? Think of the answer for yourself.

Of course, the kids should look after themselves, but overprotection can sometimes stop them from making new friends. Sometimes it’s not good for their new friendships.

Trust is like a mirror. When we offer trust to people, they might just show you trust in return.

1 What do “swindlers” probably do?

  A. They cheat other people.

  B. They often call other people.

  C. They rob people of something.

  D. They teach children to protect themselves.

2 Which of the following is NOT the reason why children don’t trust strangers?

  A. Their parents tell them not to trust strangers.

  B. They get to know some news about cheating in newspapers or on TV every day.

  C. Strangers always have bad intentions.

  D. They sometimes have experiences of being cheated.

3 What does the writer want to tell us?

  A. Children should always follow their parents’ advice.

  B. We should never talk to strangers.

  C. Parents should learn to protect their children.

  D. People should try to trust each other.
