3.When I was 16 years old and in foster care (非親代養(yǎng))in Tennessee, people told me I was unadoptable. But I desperately wanted a family.I sought the help of a judge, even the commissioner of the Department of Children's Services, and was adopted just a week before my 18th birthday.
We have a lot to be grateful for and this holiday season let's not forget about the more than 415,000 youth in foster care especially older youth. These youth are the most likely to get overlooked for adoption, but they shouldn't be.They need and deser ve a family just as much as young children do.Making an older youth a part of your family can bring just as much a joy as adopting a baby or a younger child-without all the diapers and potty training.
My adoption was life changing and probably the best thing that ever happened to me.I still remember the first gift my parents gave to me.It was a Mickey Mouse key chain with a key to their home. They told me that no matter what happened they would always love me and I'd always have a place to come home to.This is our 17th Thanksgiving together…
My first Thanksgiving with my family was a little overwhelming with lots of extended family including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. However,it's when I realized that I would never have to spend another holiday alone and that was truly an amazing feeling.
I was always eager to spend time with my little sister,Beth. She was six when I joined the family. My dad always says he knew we were really sisters, and I was no longer a guest in the house when Beth and I had our first fight.Today, she's one of my best friends, and I'm her b iggest cheerleader.
There were also bittersweet Thanksgivings. One we spent in my mom's hospital room.It was there that she helped me plan my wedding but passed away three weeks before the ceremony. My dad walked me down the aisle, and my sister was my maid of honor.Because of our bond,we were able to support each other through that challenging time and that's what family is for-the good and bad times.
It's nice having my dad and sister to share holidays and special occasions. But they're even more important when it comes to the little things-like having someone to share my bad day with, celebrate my promotion at work,or help me think through a difficult decision. It's in these moments that I just can't imagine being alone in the world.
I'm so glad that I didn't listen to those people who said I was unadoptable,I'd never find a family, and that I was putting myself out there for rejection. It's a risk for older foster youth to consider adoption. It's an opportunity to be rejected once again. But it's a risk they should take because life doesn't end at 18.It's really just beginning.
If you know someone who might consider adopting an older teen, please share my story--and have him or her think of my family. They didn't get to see my first steps or watch me be a pilgrim in my second grade Thanksgiving play. But they taught me so many things about life, and were there to watch me walk across the stage when I graduated from college and law school and accompanied me to the White House last year as I was honored for my work helping foster youth.
I look forward to many more Thanksgivings with my family, and I'm eternally thankful they chose me to be a part of their family.

12.Grandma celebrated her fifty-third birthday just weeks before grandpa died of cancer in 1965.Although his passing was very difficult for her,I think their shared struggle to make his life longer taught grandma that good health was not to be taken for granted,and she made up her mind to live the rest of her own life as fully and as long as she could.One day,when she announced to attend lessons at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Portland,Oregon,where she lived,we rolled our eyes in embarrassment and helplessly wished she would just stay home and bake cookies as normal grandmothers did.Many years filled with countless dance lessons passed before we learned to appreciate the wonder of having a dancing grandma.
I suppose grandma's primary motivation for wanting to learn to dance was social.She had been a shy girl,always very tall and heavy,and had married into grandpa's quiet lifestyle before developing any elegance or confidence in her personal appearance.Dancing,on the other hand,filled her life with flash lights,wonderful parties,beautiful dresses,handsome young dance instructors,and the challenge of learning.Although the weekly dance lessons did not change her ample,two-hundred-pound figure,grandma surprised everyone with energetic performances on the dance floor,which soon gave her as much elegance and confidence as any Miss American competitor.
Having taken weekly dance lessons for years,my grandma learned various dances easily and was soon participating in dancing matches all over the Northwest.When I was fourteen,grandma proudly invited me to watch her compete in one of these matches to be held in the grand ballroom of the Red Lion Inn.My attitude was still unenthusiastic at that point,but to make her happy,my mother and I attended the match.As if to prove me wrong,grandma made a wonderful showing in every event she entered.I thought she was truly the queen of the ball during the dance,and my thoughts were shared by the judges a short time later when she was awarded a gold cup for her outstanding performance.

21.What did grandma learn from grandpa's death?A
A.Good health was not there for everyone.
B.She should take dance lessons.
C.She had to struggle to live a better life.
D.She should wear beautiful dresses.
22.Normal grandmas usuallyD in the author's point of view.
A.took dance lessons
B.did some exercises at home
C.took care of grandchildren at home
D.did some housework at home
23.The author feltD when he was invited to watch grandma's match.
A.happy       B.proud
C.excited     D.uninterested.

科目:高中英語 來源: 題型:閱讀理解

13."Business is war."The traditional language of business certainly makes it sound that way:winning the competition,getting market share,beating up suppliers,locking up customers.There are the victors and the losers.
But today in doing business,you have to listen to shareholders,work with suppliers,keep good relations-even with competitors.That doesn't sound like war.Besides,there are few victors when business is looked upon as war.
Most businesses succeed only if others also succeed.Business is competition and cooperation as well.In other words,business is war and peace.
To bring together competition and cooperation,we turn to game theory.Game theory provides that whether one person wins or loses depends on what other people do.It is particularly effective when there are many interdependent factors and no decision can be made in isolation from other decisions.
Game theory breaks down the game into key elements:players,added values,rules,tactics(計謀),and scope (PARTS).Every element affects the result of the game.This means that each of the five elements gives you a way to change an existing game into an entirely new one.Change one of the PARTS,and you change the whole.
Why change the game?An old Chinese saying explains:If you continue on the course you're heading,that's where you'll end up.Sometimes that's good,sometimes not.You can play the game very well,and still suffer great loss. That's because you're playing the wrong game:you need to change it.Even a good game can be made into a better one.Real success comes from actively shaping the game you play-from making the game you want,not taking the game you find.
39.The author of this passage isB the idea that"Business is war."
A.in favor of
B.a(chǎn)gainst
C.considering
D.doubtful of
40.Why does the writer mention game theory?B
A.To inform the readers of the key elements.
B.To explain how competition and cooperation co-exist in business.
C.To prove business is war.
D.To introduce the Chinese old saying.
41.The correct understanding of the underlined sentence in the last paragraph isA.
A.you are really good at playing the game, but you still lose it out
B.you are so competitive that you beat up all of your competitors terribly
C.you play the game too well to suffer great loss
D.the competition is so hard that you have to put all your heart into it.
