【答案】What's your greatest regret?

Recently a survey was conducted in Europe among elderly people over 60 years old.The topic is “What's your greatest regret?” The results are as follows.

On top of the regret lists is that they didn't work hard enough when they were young, which makes up 72% of the people surveyed. Next comes the regret that they chose a wrong career, which makes up 67%. Another 58% say they regret not having had enough exercise when they were young. And the last regret, which accounts for only 11 percent, is that they haven't earned enough money.

In my opinion, it is really true that the greatest regret is not working hard enough when one is young. When young, one is energetic and quick to learn, and should therefore seize the golden chance or he will get nothing but regret when he is old, just as a famous Chinese saying goes.

One year ago, I had a special English lesson hold at the railway station. It was quite different from the regular English classes we were familiar to, for we had no textbooks, no blackboard and no fixed seats.

Gathered at the entrance of the station, we told to collect as much English words and sentence as possible there. Curious and excited, we walked around the station and looked everywhere, search for any information in English. Whenever an English word comes into sight, the class would burst into the cheers as if we had discovered a new world. With the Chinese translation and vividly pictures, we could figure out its meaning with ease.

Now, this unforgettable lesson still encourages me to be an active learner where I go.

Our government is trying hard to build an energy-saving society. It is somebody’s duty to work hard and reach this goal. However, not everybody has realized the important of it. Take our school for example. Sometime we can see that lights and computers are still on after class. Some students even forget to turn off the tap after using it and have water running all the time. Our papers are primed on only one side, caused much waste. It’s time we did something to avoid this kind of waste. Firstly, make sure that all the light and other electric facilities turned off when we leave the rooms. Try to forming the habit of turning off the tap immediate after using it What’s more, papers should not be printed on both sides and reused if possible. In a word, if everybody reduce the waste and takes action, we can contribute to our society.

【題目】Sometimes it can be easy to become too satisfied when it comes to living sustainably. We may all have recycling bins in our kitchens, but here are some ways you can live more sustainably.

1. Put an end to plastic water bottles and one-off coffee cups

The only way this is going to work is that if you have reusable options you really love, invest in a great water bottle. This is an advance payment, but it will save you money in the long run. A 750ml bottle of Evian costs 90p in Tesco, meaning if you buy one every two days you could save 10 within three weeks by filling up a reusable bottle at home.

2. _______________________________________

The high street is problematic on so many different levels. Not only are you buying items with questionable supply chains, but the carbon footprint of each product is shocking as well. Online shopping is even worse, with overpackaging for each item and the emissions from delivery trucks. The answer is to stick to reach-me-down or previously owned items as much as possible. Not only will this save you money, but there’s also a sense of satisfaction in finding a hidden treasure from the flea market where you find outstanding bargains or something used, which you simply can't get from shopping in Wal-Mart or on Amazon.

3. Think hard about your transportation

Even if your car is supposedly a low-emissions model, it’s still going to be a huge contribution to your carbon footprint. There are times when getting in a car can’t be avoided, but if you can substitute just one flight a year with a train, one car journey a week with a bus. and one bus a month with a bike ride, you’ll find that making more mindful transport decisions can easily make your day-to-day life more environmentally friendly with little effort.

4. Try to buy local, seasonal produce

You may think buying strawberries in December or courgettes in spring is no big deal, but the chemicals and fuel used to artificially copy the right environment for them to grow create harmful gas emissions. Similarly, the environmental impact of transporting produce from another country is huge. Buying from local farmers also means you can often ignore the huge amounts of packaging the supermarkets use.

1According to the passage, if we want to lower our carbon footprint, we’d better ________.

A. purchase a 75ml bottle of Evian in Tesco every other day

B. never do some shopping in Wal-Mart or on Amazon

C. buy strawberries in December or courgettes in spring

D. take transport with a low-emissions model if possible

2Which of the following is most suitable to fill in the blank?

A. Avoid too much traffic on the high street.

B. Buy items without questionable supply chains.

C. Buy second-hand products as much as possible.

D. Avoid buying items with excessive packaging.

It’s not the people you came across in your daily life who will stand by you in time of a need. It’s your family who will but it’s important to know that. It happens such often that we end up take our parents for granted. We hurt them many cases and they are treated with disrespect for not understanding them. It’s necessary to understand the fact that there is always different in opinions across two generations. But what really matters is the unconditionally love and care that they hold for us, that I believe is truly valuable.

【題目】There are many dangerous sea creatures in the world. The following are some examples.

The needlefish are commonly seen living near the surface of tropical (熱帶的) waters. But they can also break cover the water, and once in the air they can become dangerous flying swords. Though it is rare, people have been seriously hurt and even killed by the fish.Night fishermen in small boats are at particular risk because their lights may attract the fish.

Saltwater crocodiles are the world's largest crocodiles, sometimes reaching 23 feet in length and topping 2,200 pounds. Yet these crocodiles hunt quietly, lying in wait below shoreline waters to attack turtles and thirsty animals that have come to drink. Saltwater crocodiles kill a number of people each year.

There is no doubt that the great white shark sits atop the ocean food chain. The world's largest fish can weigh at over 5,000 pounds and reach lengths of more than 20 feet. Great white sharks have about 3,000 teeth, which they typically sink into sea lions, seals, and sea turtles. These sharks are responsible for a third to a half of the 100 shark attacks on humans every year.

The sea anemone (?) may look like the beautiful flower for which it's named, but fish that swim too close may regret it. The sea anemone, which lives on the sea floor, uses its poisonous tentacles (觸須) to stab passing creatures with a kind of poison—making them helpless and fit to be eaten.

The surgeonfish (刺尾魚) is an attractive reef fish that is poisonous. Scientists believe that the world's seas hold some 1, 200 different surgeonfish species and think that they injure about

50,000 people per year. But the surgeonfish poison can also bring great benefit—they are useful in the development of new drugs.

1The underlined phrase “break cover” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.

A. jump out of

B. break away from

D. go back to

2How many attacks on humans do great white sharks do every year?

A. About 26.

B. About 45.

D. the needlefish live in the sea all around the world
