8.When students and parents are asked to rate subjects according to their importance,the arts are unavoidably at the bottom of the list.Music is nice,people seem to say,but not important.Too often it is viewed as entertainment,but certainly not an education priority (優(yōu)先).This view is shortsighted.(52)E
Music tells us who we are,because music is an expression of the beings who create it.It reflects their thinking and values,as well as the social environment it came from.Rock music represents a lifestyle just as surely as does a Schubert song.The jazz influence is obviously American because it came from American musical traditions.Music expresses our character and values.(53)A
Music provides a kind of perception(感知)that cannot be acquired any other way.(54)B The arts explore the emotive(情感的) meaning of the same phenomenon.We need every possible way to discover and respond to our world for one simple but powerful reason:No one way can get it all.
The arts are forms of thought as powerful in what they communicate as mathematical and scientific symbols.They are the language of civilization through which we express our fears,our curiosities,our hungers,our discoveries,our hopes.They are ways we give form to our ideas and imagination so that they can be shared with others.When we do not give children access to an important way of expressing themselves such as music,we take away from them the meanings that music expresses.
(55)F

A.It gives us identity as a society.
B.Science can explain how the sun rises and sets.
C.They are ways we human beings"talk"to each other.
D.Science and technology do not tell us what it means to be human.
E.In fact,music education is beneficial and important for all students.
F.So music education is far more necessary than people seem to realize.

根據(jù)Music is nice, people seem to say,but not important可知,前面討論音樂(lè)似乎排名不錯(cuò),但也不是重要的,所以總結(jié)句為In fact, music education is beneficial and important for all students,故答案為E.
根據(jù)Music expresses our character and values這句話推出,音樂(lè)表達(dá)我們的性格和價(jià)值觀,所以It gives us identity as a society.
The arts explore the emotive(情感的) meaning of the same phenomenon.以及We need every possible way to discover
When we do not give children access to an important way of expressing themselves such as music,we take away from them the meanings that music expresses當(dāng)我們不給孩子提供表達(dá)情感的途徑時(shí),我們也就是剝奪來(lái)音樂(lè)的意義,所以此處強(qiáng)調(diào)了音樂(lè)的教育價(jià)值,故答案為F.

Dear Wang Lin,
I'm sorry to know that you are facing some problems. It's naturally for someone to meet with different kind of problems when he first studies abroad. The language problem was the first one.But I'm sure you'll soon be able to use the language well,so I know you're a quick learner.Being sure to take every possible chance to practice your oral English, that will do good to you.The second problem is usually the change of eating habits. Not everyone can get used for a different diet,so why not to cook meals by yourself?Studying abroad is big challenge to you,but it's really interested.
Best wishes!

3.Some people will do just about anything to save money. And I am one of them.Take my family's last vacation. It was my six-year-old son's winter break from school, and we were heading home from Fort Lauderdale after a weeklong trip. The flight was overbooked, and Delta, the airline, offered us﹩400 per person in credits to give up our seats and leave the next day.I had meetings in New York,So I had to get back. But that didn't mean my husband and my son couldn't stay.I took my nine-month-old and took off for home.
The next day,my husband and son were offered more credits to take an even later flight.Yes,I encouraged-okay,ordered-them to wait it out at the airport,to"earn"more Delta Dollars. Our total take:﹩1,600.Not bad, huh?
Now some people may think I'm a bad mother and not such a great wife either. But as a big-time bargain hunter,I know the value of a dollar. And these days,a good deal is something few of us can afford to pass up.
