【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容的理解, 選擇正確答案。 Each year, we are exposed to ten thousand ads on average. They try to sell us their products by using beautiful art, videos, images or slogans that are catchy. The most famous companies have highly popular logos that can be recognized by almost everybody. For those of you who have seen the movie Finding Forrester, there is that scene where Jamal walks up to some guy with a BMW and asks him what the car logo means. The man did not know the answer and since that day, whenever I see a famous company logo I try to find the meaning of it.
Many think the horse on the Ferrari logo represents the horsepower of the cars they manufacture. The story behind it is far more interesting. During World War I, a pilot, Count Francesco Baracca, painted the horse on his airplane to bring him luck. He had it on his plane because it was the logo of his squadron(空軍中隊(duì)). Baracca's mother then convinced Enzo Ferrari to put the logo on his racing cars in the early 1930's to bring good luck to the drivers. The logo then stayed the same ever since. The yellow on the background represents the birthplace of Enzo Ferrari.
Starbucks started in 1971, in Seattle. The mermaid(美人魚)represented on the logo is now known by any coffee drinker. It is a mythological sea creature with the look of a female, the only difference being that they have a tail of a fish. The reason why Starbucks incorporated one in their company logo is that it was believed that mermaids used to sing to sailors in order to make them walk away from their ship or to ground their ships. In the 1500s, spices, tea and coffee were popular merchandise to trade. So the mermaid in the logo of Starbucks is the one that "brings" coffee and tea to the stores.
(1)The writer became interested in logos of some famous brands after _______.
A.he watched an attractive movie
B.he saw a scene in a movie
C.he walked up to some guy with a BMW
D.he noticed some famous logos
(2)Many companies use logos because _________.
A.people enjoy beautiful logos
B.people are more likely to buy their products
C.people can recognize the products more easily

A.Starbucks was once a company trading spices, tea and coffee.
B.Hearing mermaids sing, sailors would know the right direction.

A.included

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Next time you raise an eyebrow at the views of your partner, friend, sibling (兄弟姐妹) or colleague, remember they could be helping to make you smarter.
New research shows that intelligence is not fixed but can be boosted throughout adulthood by family members, bright mates and intellectually stretching (拉伸) careers.
The study challenges the commonly held belief that intelligence is static by the age of about 18. Current scientific consensus suggests that intelligence is controlled by genes, with environmental factors such as schooling and nutrition playing a partial role up to this age. After this point, IQ scores stabilize (穩(wěn)定).
But James Flynn, professor of political studies and psychology at the University of Otago in New Zealand, argues that people can “upgrade” their own intelligence throughout their lives. He believes intellectual stimulation (刺激) from others is crucial as the “brain seems to be rather like a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger it gets”. However, the opposite is also true – so people sharing a home or workplace with those who are intellectually challenged risk seeing their IQ levels fall as a result.
He found the “understanding quality” of a family changes the IQs of all members, especially children. It can “l(fā)ift” or hold back, depending on the “gap between their brightness and that of their siblings and parents”. A bright ten-year-old with brothers and sisters of average intelligence will suffer a five to ten point IQ disadvantage, compared to a similar child with equally bright siblings. However, children with a low IQ could gain six to eight points by having brighter siblings and special educational treatment to help pull them up.
Professor Flynn also concluded that although genetics and early life experiences determine about 80 percent of intelligence, the remaining 20 percent is linked to lifestyle. This means that people can raise their IQ, or allow it to fall, by ten points or more. Therefore, the best way to boost IQ level is to mix with bright friends, find an intellectually challenging job and marry someone cleverer.
(1)We can learn from the passage that ____.
A.as the age grows, you will become smarter
B.a 35-year-old man is surely smarter than himself at the age of 18
C.you will be smarter if you have a partner, a friend or a sibling
D.after 18, you still have the possibility to become smarter
(2)The underlined word “static” in the 3rd paragraph probably means ____.
A.unstable
B.fixed
C.varied
D.repeated
(3)James Flynn holds the belief that ____.
A.intellectual stimulation from others makes the brain work better
B.people should avoid working with those intellectually challenged
C.one's IQ could be held back if he has bright brothers or sisters
D.the IQ of children is least influenced by the understanding level of a family
(4)What's the best title for the passage?
A.Genetics Determines Intelligence.
B.Watch Out for Intelligence Falling.
C.Bright Siblings Make You Smarter.
D.Brain Is Like Muscle.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
There are two main types of nonverbal communication. Body language is the first. Body language is body movements that depend on a person's attitude or feelings. Body language includes the way people walk, how they stand, and their facial features. In other words, any kind of meaning is shown by a person's attitude or body movements. For example, when a boy is sad he may drop his head and walk slowly. Or,if a girl is happy, she might run and jump or stand up straight and put her hands in the air. People don't have to say anything to show how they feel about things. The colour of people's skin may even show how they feel. For example,if people with light coloured skin get embarrassed, their skin may turn red,or if they are worried, they might get pale. Body language can be voluntary(主動(dòng)的) or involuntary(無(wú)意識(shí)的).An interesting fact is that blind children will smile when happy even though they have never seen a smile.
The next main type of nonverbal communication is gestures. Gestures are communications like facial expressions, hand signals, eye gazing, and body postures. Examples include smiles, handshakes, waving, and raising certain fingers to say something. For instance,if you saw a friend at a noisy carnival, you might smile and wave at your friend. You might also point at the Ferris wheel if you wanted to meet your friend there. You could do all of these things without saying a word. Another great example is in baseball when the catcher signals to the pitcher the kind of pitch to use for the batter that is up.
(1)If a boy passes the final exam he ________.
A.might not raise his head
B.might walk home slowly
C.might run home singing
D.might not stand there straight
(2)When someone gets pale he is most likely to be ______.
A.anxious
B.surprised
C.embarrassed
D.disappointed
(3)Which one of the following is WRONG according to this passage?
A.Body language is mainly expressed by one's body movements.
B.The blind children can also smile when they are glad.
C.You can also express yourself without saying a word in baseball.
D.Gestures can be shown only by one's hands.
(4)All the following are gestures except ________.
A.hand signals
B.coloured skin
C.hand wave
D.eye gazing
