科目:高中英語 來源:不詳 題型:完形填空

We’ve all done it at one point or another. You’re driving along to work or school when that familiar sound reaches your eardrums(耳膜). You look down, reach into your pocket and begin to read, your steering wheel(方向盤) in one hand, your phone in the other. As you respond to that text message from your friend, you look intermittently(間歇地) at the road, and then back down at your phone. You’ve done it plenty of times before. What can go wrong?
What do you think is the number one killer of teenagers in the U.S.? Drugs? Alcohol? Violence? The answer is distracted driving. According to the National Safety Council, over 24 percent of all motor vehicle crashes involve cell phone use. Either a quick 30-second phone call or a simple text reading may be the cause of a traffic accident. In addition, drivers who talk on a cell phone, whether hands-free or not, are four times more likely to crash.
The risk of teenagers getting into an accident rises sharply. According to keepthedrive.com, more than 3,000 teenagers die in car accidents each year with about another 450,000 teenagers being injured. Additionally, according to a University of Utah study, reading or sending even one text message is equal to having a 0.08 alcohol level. In most states, that is considered as drunk-driving.
So, how do you prevent yourself from the danger of distracted driving? The answer is simpler than you might think. Put your phone away. Mute(消音) your phone or just turn it off while driving. If you still can’t help reaching for your phone, throw it on the backseat. This way, you won’t be able to get to it until you arrive at your destination.
You may get away with talking on the phone now, but there may be a day when you don’t. Dropping your phone may be an inconvenience, but it’s better than being a victim of your distracted driving.

What is a dream?
For centuries, people have wondered about the strange places that they seem to visit in their sleep.   1 However, they have been valued as necessary to a person's health and happiness.
Historically people thought dreams contained messages from God. It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams scientifically believing that they tell about a person's character. 2  He believed that dreams allow a person to express fantasies or fears, which would be socially unacceptable in real life.
The second theory to become popular was Carl Jung's compensation theory. Jung, a former student of Freud, said that the purpose of a dream is not to hide something, but rather to communicate it to the dreamer.  3 Thus, people who think too highly of themselves may  dream about falling; those who think too little of themselves dream of being heroes.
Using more recent research, William Domhoff from the University of California found that  dreaming is a mental skill that needs time to develop in humans. , 4  Until they reach age  five, they can not express very well what their dreams are about. Once people become adults,  there is little or no change in their dreams. The dreams of men and women differ. For instance,
The characters that appear in the dreams of men are often  other men, and often involve physical aggression.
The meaning of dreams continues to be difficult to understand.  5  If you dream that a loved one is going to die, do not panic. The dream may have meaning, but it does not mean that your loved one is going to die.
A.Dreams make up for what is lacking in waking life.
B.However, people should not take their dreams as reality.
C.They have been considered as meaningless nighttime journeys.
D.It gives scientists chances to better understand human mind.
E.Children do not dream as much as adults.
F.They think their mind is trying to tell them something.
G.First, there was Sigmund Freud’s theory.

__1____Painkillers in a tablet can make your headache go away. Antibiotic cream(抗生膏)from a tube can prevent your cuts from becoming infected. But can medicine come packaged in chicken eggs?
A team of scientists from Scotland says yes. They've engineered special chickens that lay eggs with disease-treating drugs inside.
_2____Animals make thousands of proteins—they’re the main ingredient in skin, hair, milk, and meat. Since animals can make proteins easily, they’re good candidates for making protein drugs.
Researchers have already made cows, sheep, and goats that pump out protein drugs in their milk. But chickens are not expensive to take care of; what’s more, they need less room, and grow faster than these other animals. “  __3____”says Simon Lillico of the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh, Scotland.
Lillico and a team of researchers changed chickens’ DNA—the code that tells cells how to make proteins so that the birds’ cells made two protein drugs.  __4____
The scientists altered the chickens’ DNA so that the birds made these drugs only in their egg whites (蛋清). This protects the chickens’ bodies from the drugs’ possible harmful effects and makes it easy for scientists to collect the drugs.
These special chickens can pass on their drug-laying abilities to their chicks.  __5____ The scientists need to improve these chickens before they roost (棲息) in drug companies’ labs. The birds don’t make enough drugs to treat people yet. But once the researchers perfect their technique, you might eventually take your medicine sunny-side up.
A.Medicine comes in lots of different uses.
B.Those qualities could make chickens a better choice to become living drug factories.
C.So far, the Scottish researchers have bred five generations of drug—producing birds.
D.Some chickens are found having the ability of treating diseases.
E. One drug can treat skin cancer, and the other treats a nerve disease called multiple sclerosis(硬化).
F. These drugs are made of molecules called proteins.
