“It’s no use, Mum,” said Johnny. “I’m just no good at dancing.”

“You’ve got to keep trying. Tonight will be     36    , dear. Try a turn with that pretty Lisette.”

Johnny     37    . Every Saturday night used to be the best of the week. He and his parents went to the     38     at the Club, where his hero, Alcide, played the accordion (手風(fēng)琴) with the band. But lately everything had changed. Now that Johnny was older, he was     39     to dance with a girl!

40     Johnny and his parents arrived at the Club, music had already started. Johnny got up his     41     to approach Lisette. “May I have this dance?” Johnny asked. “That’s all right,” said Lisette. Johnny struggled to keep up with Lisette’s     42     steps, but he was always one beat behind her. Then Johnny heard his friend Pierre say, “Look! Johnny has two left feet!”     43

The next Saturday, Alcide     45     to Johnny’s house for some potatoes. He happened to hear Johnny playing the accordion. Alcide’s eyes     46    . “Bring that accordion and play some songs tonight,” Alcide said. Then he drove off, leaving Johnny staring open- mouthed     47     him.

Young Johnny is going to join us!”     50    , Johnny stepped up on the platform, his eyes on the floor. He began to play, and the band     51     behind him. When the song ended, he heard cheers. Johnny kept playing until the dance was     52    . “You did a fine job tonight. Play with us again next Saturday night,” Alcide said. “Yes, sir!” said Johnny.   53   he went outside, Johnny saw Lisette and her friends near the door. Lisette stepped     54    , smiling. “You played really good tonight!” she said.

“Thank you,” Johnny blushed (臉紅). As he walked on, Pierre     55     moved out of the way for him to pass.

Johnny patted his accordion. Come to think of it, in his whole life, he had never once seen Alcide out on the dance floor.

It's 10:30 pm, and 11-year-old Brandon Blanco is sound asleep at home. Suddenly, a loud noise wakes him up. Naturally, Brandon reaches for his cell phone. The message becomes clear: "R U awake?"
Brandon' s use of technology doesn' t stop there. He also has a computer, a TV and three video-game consoles (控制臺(tái) ) in his room. With so many choices, it' s no surprise that when he isn' t at school, he spends nearly every waking minute using one or more of these devices
Brandon is hardly alone. According to a recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, kids aged 8 to18 are spending more time than ever before using electronic devices. How much time? More than seven and a half hours a day on average, the study found.
The jump is the result of a huge explosion in mobile devices, says Victoria Rideout, the lead author of the study. Today, nearly seven out of ten kids have cell phones. Just five years ago, it was four out of ten.
Often, kids multitask, or use more than one device at a time. " If you’ve got a chance to do something on your computer and take a phone call and have the TV on in the background, why not?" media expert Cheryl Olson says.
Most experts agree technology has much to offer kids. But some worry the kids could be missing out on other activities like playing outside or hanging out with friends. " It' s a matter of balance," says Olson." You’ve got to work on it. "
Multitasking while doing homework is another concern. Some kids listen to music, watch TV or use the phone while doing their homework. "It' s important to make sure that you can stop and concentrate on one thing deeply, " says Rideout.
With new and exciting devices hitting stores every year, keeping technology use in check is more important than ever. " Kids should try," adds Rideout. " But parents might have to step in sometimes. "
【小題1】Why do children spend more time in using electronic devices?

A.Because more electronic devices are available to them.
B.Because electronic devices are more exciting than before.
C.Because they have less other activities.
D.Because they have less homework to do.
【小題2】It is known from the passage that  ____.
A.Brandon Blanco feels very annoyed about his late-night text
B.the teenagers using mobile devices have increased by 30% in the past five years
C.Cheryl Olson is not surprised about kids' increasing use of mobile devices
D.most experts think teenagers should not use electronic devices for their studies
【小題3】Which of the following is an example of multitasking according to the passage?
A.Watching TV while using the computer.
B.Talking on the phone while staying with others.
C.Playing video games on the Internet.
D.Listening to music while relaxing.
【小題4】According to the passage, Victoria Rideout would probably agree that ____.
A.kids should do homework while surfing the Internet
B.kids should do homework in a place without disturbance
C.kids should spend more time on homework
D.kids should have more homework than before

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2011年山東省高考模擬練習(xí)題(二)英語(yǔ)題 題型:閱讀理解

Would you eat a ready meal from the fridge rather than cook from scratch (從頭開始 )? Have you been doing internet shopping rather than going to the stores? What can't you be bothered to do?

A study into how lazy British people are has found more than half of adults are so idle they'd catch the lift rather than climb two flights of stairs.

Just over 2000 people were quizzed by independent researchers at Nuffield Health, Britain's largest health charity. The results were surprising.

About one in six people surveyed said if their remote control was broken, they would continue watching the same channel rather than get up.

More than one third of those questioned said they would not run to catch a bus. Worryingly, of the 654 respondents (回答者) with children, 64% said they were often too tired to play with them.

This led the report to conclude that it's no wonder that one in six children in the UK are classified as obese (肥胖) before they start school.

Dr Sarah Dauncey, medical director of Nuffield Health, said: "People need to get fitter, not just for their own sake, but for the sake of their families, friends and obviously their pets too.

"If we don't start to take control of this problem, a whole generation will become too unfit to perform even the most basic of tasks."

And Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, was shamed as the laziest city in the UK, with 75% surveyed admitting they do not get enough exercise, followed closely by Birmingham and Southampton, both with 67%.

The results pose (對(duì)... 提出) serious challenges for the National Health Service, where obesity-related illnesses such as heart disease and cancer have been on a steady increase for the past 40 years and are costing billions of pounds every year.

A. continue watching the same channel rather than get up to get the remote control

2.Which of the following statements agrees with British people?

A. They are fond of climbing the stairs.

B. They are willing to accompany their children.

C. They like sports and get enough exercise.

D. They are suffering from obesity-related illnesses.

3.What does the word "idle" in paragraph 2 mostly probably mean?

A. active               B. lazy              C. optimistic      D. pessimistic

4.Which country is the writer most likely to come from?

A. America              B. China             C. U.K             D. France

5. What's the main idea of the passage?

A. UK is taking measures to get over laziness.
