Before a new type of airplane goes into service, every part of it is tested again and again. But there are two tests that are more important than all the others.

The first is called the “tank test”. A modern airplane must fly very high in the sky. Air must be pumped into the plane so that the passengers can breathe. The metal structure (結(jié)構(gòu)) of the plane has to be very strong for this reason. When the plane is filled with air, the air presses against the skin of the plane inside. The pressure (壓力) on a small window is like a huge foot that is trying to get out. If a small part of the plane were to fail, the plane would explode in the sky. To test the structure of the plane, the plane is lowered into a huge tank or container of water. Then it is filled with air. The pressure inside the plane is greater than it ever will be when it is high up in the air. Finally, there is an explosion. This does not cause so much damage inside the water tank as it would anywhere else. Engineers can discover which part of the plane has broken. Then that part is made stronger,

The most dangerous test happens when the new plane is going through test flights in the air. The test pilot must find out exactly what happens when the engines (發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī)) are all shut off at once. The plane begins to fall like a stone. It is the pilot’s job to find out how he can get control of the plane again. These two tests are examples of how planes are made safe before they ever carry passengers.

1By doing the “tank test”, the engineers can find out ________.

A.the power of the airplane enginesB.the amount of air in the plane

C.the strength of the plane structureD.the pressure inside and outside the plane

2What will happen to the plane under the “tank test”?

A.It will be tested by pilots.B.It will be broken.

C.It will be made stronger.D.It will be filled with water.

3According to the text. why are test flights most dangerous?

A.Too much air may get into the plane.B.The plane may explode in the air.

C.The pilot may lose control of the plane.D.The engines may be damaged.

4What might be the most suitable title for the text?

A.How Airplanes Are Made and TestedB.Two Important Tests on Airplanes

C.The Importance of Flying SafelyD.The Danger of Testing Airplanes

根據(jù)文章第二段“Engineers can discover which part of the plane has broken. Then that part is made stronger,”可知通過(guò)水箱測(cè)試,研究人員可以發(fā)現(xiàn)飛機(jī)結(jié)構(gòu)的缺點(diǎn),進(jìn)行補(bǔ)弱。

根據(jù)文章第二段“ Finally, there is an explosion.”

根據(jù)文章最后一段“The plane begins to fall like a stone. It is the pilot’s job to find out how he can get control of the plane again. ”可知在試飛的過(guò)程,試飛員要關(guān)閉發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī),飛機(jī)就像是石頭一樣下落,然后試飛員再找到控制飛機(jī)的方法。所以,試飛最大的危險(xiǎn)是對(duì)飛機(jī)失去控制。故選C。

4主旨大意題。根據(jù)文章第一段“Before a new type of airplane goes into service, every part of it is tested again and again. But there are two tests that are more important than all the others.”

“Funny”, a made-in-China emoji, seems to have recently moved beyond China. Now, it is more than an emoji, but a cultural expansion.

● Reaching Global Markets

A series of “funny” emoji-based bolsters(抱枕) have attracted the attention of Japanese customers. Even if one bolster is more than three times as expensive as in China, it doesn’t kill their desires to buy it. One Japanese customer Miki said, “They are just so cute and I bought three bolsters at one time for my family. And every time I see them, my mood just brightens suddenly.”

A Japanese netizen Kiro Kara said, “I think the emoji implies very complicated meanings. My dad will send it when he doesn’t agree with someone but he has to say something and behave politely.”

● Addition to Domestic Social Media

Compared with Japanese impressions of the “funny” emoji, Chinese netizens prefer to use the emoji to tease one another on social media.

One commonly seen online comment is, “We strongly suggest stopping the usage of the emoji. Because every time other people send me the emoji, I feel very uncomfortable and consider myself as a fool.”

Regarded as the most popular emoji, the “funny” emoji has received much attention since its release in 2013. In fact, the “funny” emoji is the updated version of its original one; “funny” has a smiley mouth, two eyebrows and a naughty look. All these characteristics present users a sense of satire(諷刺).

● In Everyday UseAbroad

It’s not the first time the Chinese emoji takes the world stage. Earlier this year, one emoji from the Chinese basketball celebrity Yao Ming has been spread through the Middle East region. In a city in southern Egypt, Yao’s smiling emoji has appeared frequently in local traffic signs to remind people the road ahead is one-way. Many locals do not know Yao Ming but are familiar with his emoji and nickname “Chinese Funny Face”.

As a new online language, emojis have become a necessary part of people’s daily life, helping people express their views in a more vivid and precise way. Also, it can help foreigners learn about Chinese culture. But how to properly use “the fifth innovation in China” without hurting others and turn them into commercial advantages still need answers.

1Why do the bolsters attract Miki’s attention?

A.They are inexpensive.

B.They help reach an agreement.

C.They help brighten the mood.

D.They are helpful to express desire.

2According to the passage, which of the following is the latest “funny” emoji?

A.B.

C.D.

3Emojis are so popular worldwide mainly because people use them to _______.

A.express their views more vividly

B.present their sense of satire directly

C.imply very complicated meanings properly

D.tease one another on social media purposely
