A Ten-minute Break

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

【答案】Good morning, everyone! I am extremely honored to have a chance to speak here today!

Time seems limited for us high school students, so more students try to study even during the ten-minute break. In my opinion, taking a break between classes is definitely vital. During the ten-minute break, doing nothing tiring is strongly suggested. Making progress needs a thorough and persevering process, and we all know those who can’t find time for recreation are obliged sooner or later to fail.

Hope you can follow my advice! Your listening is much appreciated!

Growing up on a small farm, I lived a life that I took for granted. My father worked in the city as a plumber(水暖工).He was not highly educated, but he was smart, looking at problems in an engineer’s way. He was a man made of leather, brass and chewing tobacco who tried to teach my brother and me useful things, including respect. He also had a temper and was strict with us for he would scold us when we made some careless mistakes. Sometimes, my father seemed like a distant enemy to me and I didn’t like him very much.

One day I came home from primary school and his car was already there. Once inside, I was told by my mother that he didn’t feel well. His back hurt. My father never missed work; in fact, when he came home, he went to the barn to work even more. I remember looking at him secretly around the corner as he lay on his bed in the middle of the day.

Later, my mother told me he got multiple myeloma(多發(fā)性骨髓瘤),a type of cancer. As the cancer grows, the person will shrink because the disease destroys the body’s energy and the abnormal antibodies cause problems for other cells and tissue. Bones eventually look like Swiss cheese, and when they break, they may never heal. But I didn’t realize that my father’s time was rather limited and just treated him the same way I used to.

For the last year of my fathers life, his entire day consisted df rising from his hospital bed in the living room and walking to his chair to sit and think. He was predictably in that chair when I came home one day during the ninth grade. I do not remember where my mother and brother were, but the two of us were alone.

Paragraph 1 :

He asked me to sit down and what he told me still moves me these decades Later.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Paragraph 2 :

At that moment, I realized that he was doing more than telling.

【題目】Most of us don't like to think too much about rubbish.1. However, household waste is a major contributor to our planet's waste problem. Like it or not, it needs to be managed if we are to have a brighter green future.

When it comes to being responsible for our own rubbish, the best way to approach it is by following the three golden rules of waste management, or the'3 Rs'-Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

"The order is important.2," says Eugene Tay, Director of Green Future Solutions in Singapore. "Recycling still affects the environment and should be done last after reduce and reuse."

But, when our efforts to reduce and reuse still result in an overflowing rubbish bin, the advantages of recycling cannot be ignored. "3," says Amy Ho, Managing Director of World Wide Fund For Nature in Singapore. "The damage to our environment could then be slowed down as a result. "

In fact, by recycling just one plastic bottle, you are saving not just the material to make a new one, but you also stop it from getting thrown into a landfill(垃圾掩埋場(chǎng))for up to 700 years-and that's before it even starts to rot. 4.

Recycling is so important that we really have no excuse not to do the simplest of household tasks that will make a difference.

"5," says Ho. "Starting with recycling grey water for gardening purposes, to recycling materials such as glass, paper and iron-it all reduces the use of raw materials."

A. We put it in the bin and don't think too far beyond that

B. The collective action of individuals can make a significant effect

C. It's important for every household to make good use of grey water

D. Waste reduction and reuse is usually the best way to decrease waste

E. The three rules of waste management should be followed by every household

F. Recycling reduces the use of raw materials and so protects our natural resources

G. Recycling just 10% plastic bottles would keep 90 million kilograms of plastic out of landfills

In conclusion it is important to emphasize once again the rise of consumer power. We must realize that we are all part of the problem.5
