【題目】I wouldn't think it ________ to ask him to ________ the club—he'll only refuse.
A.worthwhile; join
B.worthwhile; join in
C.worth; join
D.worth; attend

【答案】A
【解析】考查詞匯辨析。句意:我認為讓他參加俱樂部不值得——他只會拒絕。worthwhile 和worthy都有"值得"的意思, 但是worthwhile常用于It is worthwhile to do /doing sth的句型, 而worth常用于詞組"be (well)worth doing";所以第一空填worthwhile;join側重于指加入某個組織, join in后面常接活動或人, 所以答案是:A

The first monthly exam which I took as a high school student held at the end of September. Unluckily, I performed poorly in mathematics and chemistry, all of which used to be my strong subject. As a result of, my total test score fell greatly and ranked 400th in our grade. I feel upset and my mother suggested I spend some time in my hobby—fishing for relaxation. Driving by my mother's suggestion, I went to a pond on a weekend. There I fished for a whole day but calmed myself down. The joy from fishing successful pushed me out off low spirits.

【題目】根據短文理解,選擇正確答案。
A dog, it is said, is a man's best friend. Put a dog, a kid and a book together, and you have a struggling reader's best friend.
The therapy dogs of R.E.A.D. – Reading Education Assistance Dogs – have been helping children improve their reading skills since 1999, when Intermountain Therapy Animals (ITA) began the program in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Today, tens of thousands of R.E.A.D. teams – dogs and their owners – volunteer to spend time with youngsters in schools and libraries across the United States and around the world. The idea is that sharing a book with a nonjudgmental (不帶評論的) partner encourages students' confidence and helps develop a love of reading.
Izzy, a Havanese therapy dog, is a regular visitor to Public School 57 in East Harlem, New York. Students meet him in the library, pick out a book and sit down on the carpet. Izzy snuggles (依偎) up to them and gets ready to hear a story.
“I love reading to Izzy because he listens to me, and he doesn't make fun of me when I make a mistake,” says third-grader Aelane Vasquez. The 9-year-old, whose parents are from Mexico, is one of 15 Latin-American students at the school who were selected for the program.
“All the students that we work with in the R.E.A.D. program were behind reading levels at the beginning of the year,” Bridget McElroy, who teaches English as a Second Language, explained. “Now most of them have reached the average level, if not above it.” That's important, because achieving proficiency (熟練) in reading is vital for kids to succeed. Studies have shown that students who can't read at grade level by the end of third grade are four times less likely to graduate high school by the age of 19.
The R.E.A.D. teams from New York Therapy Animals work with 175 kids at Public School 57 and nine other schools.
McElroy said she sees a marked difference in Aelane and her classmates, and not just in study. “Not only do the kids have time to practice reading, what we are really seeing is that they are excited to read and practice even when Izzy is not here,” she said.
(1)According to this passage, dogs are the best friend of kids because ____.
A.they keep kids company through therapy
B.they can protect kids from danger
C.they are helpful to encourage kids to read
D.they are struggling and work hard
(2)What does the example of Aelane Vasquez show?
A.Kids from Mexico love reading to Izzy.
B.Only Latin-American students can be chosen for the program.
C.The R.E.A.D. teams are responsible for the selection.
D.Listening without judgment is inspiring for the kids.
(3)Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The students in the R.E.A.D. program improve a lot only in study.
B.Without proficiency in reading, it's difficult for kids to succeed.
C.All the students in the R.E.A.D. program can be above the reading level.
D.When not accompanied by the dog, kids will stop practicing reading consequently.

【題目】根據短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Most damagingly, anger weakens a person's ability to think clearly and keep control over his behaviour. The angry person loses objectivity in evaluating the emotional significance of the person or situation that arouses his anger.
Not everyone experiences anger in the same way; what angers one person may amuse another. The specific expression of anger also differs from person to person based on biological and cultural forces. In contemporary culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially harmful to be tolerated. We no longer regard duels(決斗) as an appropriate expression of anger resulting from one person's awareness of insulting behaviour on the part of another.
Anger can be identified in the brain, where the electrical activity changes. Under most conditions EEG(腦電圖) measures of electrical activity show balanced activity between the right and left prefrontal(額葉前部) areas. Behaviourally this corresponds to the general evenhanded disposition(意向) that most of us possess most of the time. But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced and, as a result of this, we're likely to react. And our behavioural response to anger is different from our response to other emotions, whether positive or negative.
Most positive emotions are associated with approach behaviour: we move closer to people we like. Most negative emotions, in contrast, are associated with avoidance behaviour: we move away from people and things that we dislike or that make us anxious. But anger is an exception to this pattern. The angrier we are, the more likely we are to move towards the object of our anger. This corresponds to what psychologists refer to as offensiveanger: the angry person moves closer in order to influence and control the person or situation causing his anger. This approachandconfront behaviour is accompanied by a leftward prefrontal asymmetry(不對稱) of EEG activity. Interestingly, this asymmetry lessens if the angry person can experience empathy(同感) towards the individual who is bringing forth the angry response. In defensiveanger, in contrast, the EEG asymmetry is directed to the right and the angry person feels helpless in the face of the angerinspiring situation.
(1)The“duels”example in Paragraph 2 proves that the expression of anger ________.
A.usually has a biological basis
B.varies among people
C.is socially and culturally shaped
D.influences one's thinking and evaluation
(2)What changes can be found in an angry brain?
A.Balanced electrical activity can be spotted.
B.Unbalanced patterns are found in prefrontal areas.
C.Electrical activity corresponds to one's behaviour.
D.Electrical activity agrees with one's disposition.
(3)Which of the following is typical of offensive anger?
A.Approaching the source of anger.
B.Trying to control what is disliked.
C.Moving away from what is disliked.
D.Feeling helpless in the face of anger.
(4)What is the key message of the last paragraph?
A.How anger differs from other emotions.
B.How anger relates to other emotions.
C.Behavioural responses to anger.
D.Behavioural patterns of anger.

【題目】Education is not an end, but a means to an end. In other words, we do not educate children only for the purpose of educating them. Our purpose is to fit them for life.

In some modern countries it has for some time been fashionable to think that by free education for all—whether rich or poor, clever or stupid—one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough; we find in such countries a far larger number of people with university degrees refuse to do what they think to be "low" work, and, in fact, work with hands is thought to be dirty and shameful in such countries. But we have only to think a moment to understand that the work of a completely uneducated farmer is far more important than that of a professor. We can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses, we should get terrible diseases in our towns.

In fact, when we say that all of us must be educated to fit us for life, it means that we must be educated in such a way that, firstly, each of us can do whatever work suited to his brains and ability and, secondly, that we can realize that all jobs are necessary to society, and that is very bad to be ashamed of one's work. Only such a type of education can be considered valuable to society.

1According to the passage, the purpose of education is _____.

A. to build a perfect world

B. to choose a system of education

C. to let everyone receive education fit for him

D. to prepare children mainly for their future work

2Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. It's hard for university graduates to find jobs.

B. No one would like to do work with hands.

C. Education is not enough to build a perfect nation.

D. University graduates are ashamed of their work.

3In the writer's opinion, _____.

A. all the social problems can't be solved by education

B. free education for all probably leads to a perfect world

C. free education won't help to solve social problems

D. education can settle all of the world's problems
