Golden Lessons from Steve Jobs

A. The only way to do great work is to love what you do.

B. We’re here to make things different.

C. Innovation has no limits.

D. Don’t waste life living someone else’s life.

E. It’s wonderful to have a beginner’s mind.

F. Severe failure helps people grow.

G. Stick to what you want to do.

61.____

The only limit of innovation is your imagination. Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower. It’s time for you to begin thinking out of the box. If you are involved in a growing industry, think of ways to become more efficient, more customer-friendly, and easier to do business with. And remember that procrastination is not an option here. Start innovating now!

62.____

Do what you love. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. Seek out an occupation that gives you a sense of meaning, direction and satisfaction in life. It not only contributes to health and longevity, but also makes you feel better in difficult times. Do you jump out of bed on Monday mornings and look forward to the work week? If the answer is “no”, keep looking, you’ll know when you find it.

63.____

There’s a phrase in Buddhism, “Beginner’s mind.” It is the kind of mind that can see things as they are, which step by step and in a flash can realize the original nature of everything. Beginner’s mind is Zen practice in action. It is the mind that is innocent of preconceptions and expectations, judgments and prejudices. Think of beginner’s mind as the mind that faces life like a small child, full of curiosity and wonder and amazement.

64.____

I’m the only person I know that’s lost a quarter of a billion dollars in one year. It’s very character-building. Don’t equate making mistakes with being a mistake. There is no such thing as a successful person who has not failed or made mistakes, there are successful people who made mistakes and changed their lives or performance in response to them, and so got it right the next time. They viewed mistakes as warnings rather than signs of hopeless inadequacy. Never making a mistake means never living life to the full.

65.____

Don’t be trapped by the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. No doubt, it’s your life and you have every right to spend it in your own individual way without any hurdles or barriers from others. Give yourself a chance to live a life that YOU choose and be your own boss in a fear-free and pressure-free climate. So go ahead, give them a try.

It was a Sunday and the heavy storm had lasted all night. The morning after the storm, though, was beautiful: blue skies, warm air and a calm, inviting sea touching the shore gently.

My father realised it was a good day for fishing and invited my sister and me to go with him.I was only 14 and fishing had never been my thing, but I decided to go all the same.I' m so glad I did

On the way to the harbour we could see the terrible destruction on the coast, but the harbour itself was in fairly good shape. After all, it was protected by the arms of a bay that had only one tiny channel to the sea.As we got on board, we noticed two big humps (脊背) in the distance.

On approaching them, we saw it was a mother whale with her baby.We couldn't believe it — there aren't any whales along the coast here. The storm must have driven them across the ocean into the bay, in which the still water was so badly polluted that nothing could survive.

The little baby whale —actually as big as our boat — was obviously stuck and could not move. The mother dived under the water and came up suddenly, making big whirlpools (漩渦) and waves."She's trying to help her baby, but on the wrong side," my father said.At this point, my father moved our boat in a semicircle to the other side and, heading the boat towards the baby whale, pushed it gently. With our several gentle pushes the big hump turned over and disappeared under water. Then it swam up right beside its mum. They struggled in their desperate attempts to escape but missed the exit and started heading in the wrong direction. We hurried up to the whales and tried to lead them towards the bay channel.Slowly, they let us lead them, sometimes rising from the water right beside us to breathe -- and to give us a trusting look with those huge eyes.Once they hit their first part of clean water flowing straight from the sea, the mum gave us a wave with her tail and off they swam into the distance.

In the excitement it had felt like only a few minutes, but we had been with those wonderful animals for almost an hour and a half. That was the simple and lasting beauty of the day.Nearly four decades later, I still look back fondly to that golden day at sea.

The author says "I' m so glad I did." ( in Para.2) because _________.

A.he witnessed the whole process of fishing

B.he enjoyed the beauty of the calm sea

C.he experienced the rescue of the whales

D.he spent the weekend with his family

The mother whale failed to help her baby because __________.

A.she had stayed in the polluted water for too long

B.the whirlpools she had made were not big enough

C.she had no other whales around to turn to for help

D.the waves pushed her baby in the wrong direction

What is the theme of the story?

A.Saving lives brings people a sense of happiness.

       B.Fishing provides excitement for children.

C.It's necessary to live in harmony with animals.

D.It's vital to protect the whale in the ocean.

科目:高中英語 來源:2015屆廣東省佛山市高一下學(xué)期第一次段考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

I recently turned fifty, which is young for a tree, midlife for an elephant, and ancient for a sportsman. Fifty is a nice number for the states in the US or for a national speed limit but it is not a number that I was prepared to have hung on me. Fifty is supposed to be my father’s age, but now I am stuck with this number and everything it means.

A few days ago, a friend tried to cheer me up by saying, “Fifty is what forty used to be.” He had made an inspirational (有靈感的) point. Am I over the hill ? People keep telling me that the hill has been moved, and I keep telling them that the high-jump bar has dropped from the six feet I once easily cleared to the four feet that is impossible for me now.

“You are not getting older, you are getting better.” Says Dr. Joyce Brothers. This, however, is the kind of doctor who inspires a second opinion.

And so as I approach the day when I cannot even jump over the tennis net, I am moved to share some thoughts on aging with you, I am moved to show how aging feels to me physically and mentally. Getting older, of course, is obviously a better change than the one that brings you eulogies(悼詞). In fact, a poet name Robert Browning considered it the best change of all:

Grow old along with me !

The best is yet to me.

Whether or not Browning was right, most of my first fifty years have been golden ones, so I will settle for what is ahead being as good as what has gone by. I find myself moving toward what is ahead with a curious blend(混合) of both fighting and accepting my aging, hoping that the philosopher(哲學(xué)家) was right when he said , “old is always fifteen years from now.”

A.peaceful          B.ordinary          C.satisfactory        D.regretful

4.We can infer from the passage that ________ .

A.the old should lead a simple life

B.the old should face the fact of aging

C.the old should take more exercise

D.the old should fill themselves with curiosity

5.Which of the following statements is WRONG?_______.

A.It’s hard for the author to jump over the six-feet high-jump bar now.

B.The author is optimistic about his future.

C.the author used to think 50 was far away from him.
