Mr. King lived with six hundred wild animals on the Greek Island of Kyklos. Ever since he left school, he had traveled all over the word collecting animals for his own zoo. He hoped to collect two examples of every kind of animal on his island. But he was afraid that people would find him someday.
He wrote books about his travels and about his animals that he collected. The money from the books helped to pay for all the food that these animals ate.
One day, when Mr. King was out looking for drinking water, he found oil. He needed money for his travels and for his zoo, and a little oil would buy enough water for what he needed all his life, but he knew that if he told anyone else about it, it would be the end of his zoo and his life’s work. So he decided not to tell anyone else about what he had found, because oil and water couldn’t mix.

The night started out ordinarily enough. Jack and Tara, our   36  , were in their small beds surrounded by toy animals. My husband, Pat, and I went to sleep   37 .
38  after midnight, Jack quietly touched me. “Mommy, I want to stay with you. I promise I won’t take much room.” I shifted   39  to make room. My son soon fell asleep.

My son and a bunch of his 13-year-old friends piled into the back seat of my car, ready for the last-day-of-school party at McDonald’s on report card day last year. “Jack got a laptop for getting straight A’s, and Laurie got a cell phone,” one boy said. “Oh, yeah, and Sarah got an iPod Nano, and she’s only in third grade,” said another. “And how about Brian? He got $ 10 for each A.”
I suddenly became concerned. These payoffs might get parents through grammar school, but what about high school and beyond? What would be left after the electric guitar, the cell phone, and the portable DVD player?
I saw the road ahead: As the homework load increased, my income would decrease. I saw my comfortable lifestyle disappear before my eyes — no more of those $5 bags of already-peeled organic carrots. No more organic anything!
I started to feel surprised and nervous. Would every goal attained by my two children fetch a reward? A high grade point average? A good class ranking? Would sports achievements be included in this reward system: soccer goals, touchdowns, runs-batted-in? What about orchestra? Would first chair pay more than second? I’d be penniless by eighth-grade graduation.
“We never paid anything for good grades,” said my neighbor across the street, whose son was recently accepted at MIT. “He just did it on his own. Maybe once in a while we went out for pizza, but that’s about it.”
Don’t you just hate that? We’re all running around looking for the MP3 player with the most updates, and she’s spending a few dollars on pizza. She gets motivation; we get negotiation.
46.Why did the writer suddenly become concerned?
A.Because many kids were getting very good grade at school.
B.Because he was worried about the current reword system.
C.Because he wasn’t making enough money to buy things for his kids’ good grades.            D.Because kids were having too many parties after school.
47.The underlined sentence “As the homework load increased, my income would decrease.” (in
Paragraph 3) probably means that _________.
A.taking care of the children would influence my work
B.I would spend more money on my children’s homework
C.reducing children’s homework load would cost me a lot
D.more rewards would be needed as the children grew up
48.The example of the author’s neighbor shows that _________.
A.pizza is the best way to encourage children
B.the author’s neighbor was very poor
C.reward is not the only way to encourage children
D.the son of the author’s neighbor’s didn’t like reward
49.It can be inferred from the passage that _________.
A.children would think that you should if you pay them for good grades
B.children would work harder if you buy them pizza for good grades
C.children would not ask for rewards when they enter high school
D.children would not ask for rewards when they enter university
50.What is the author’s attitude toward paying children reward for good grades?
A.Helpful.            B.Uncertain.                C.Unpleasant.        D.Unknowable.

Jamaican sprinter (短跑選手) Usain Bolt plans to send a message to rival Tyson Gay by breaking the world 100m record in the London Grand Prix on Friday.
Bolt, who won gold in the 100m,200m and 4*100m relay in reord times at the Beijing Olympics last year, is determined to use the Crystal Palace event to crush the morale (士氣)  of his main rival for gold at next month’s World Athletics Championships in Berlin.
The 22-year-old is slowly returning to peak form after posting 19.59 sec for the 200m in Lausanne earlier this month and clocking a time of 9.79 sec over 100m in cold, rainy conditions in Paris on Friday.
Despite Bolt’s impressive times, Gay still believes he has the beating of the Jamaican. But Bolt insists there is no one in the sport who scares him and he will prove the point in south London this weekend.
Although Bolt believes he is only running at 85 percent at the moment while he recovers from injuries suffered in a recent car crash in Jamaica, he sees no reason why he can’t break his world record 100m time of 9.69 seconds.
However he won’t get the chance to take on Gay in the 100m in London as the American is only running in the 200m, which Bolt is not competing in, so he will have to settle for underlining his own ability.
“You never know what is possible. I will give my best either way. My friends are saying I’m bringing the rain wherever I go but we will see on Friday.”
While Bolt would love to make a big impact in London, he knows the main event is the World Championships.
“The London Grand Prix will show me where I’m at and what I need to do. After, we can analyse what I need to do ahead of the World Championships.”
小題1:According to the passage, Bolt competed and will compete in the following event. Which of them is arranged in time order?

What will you be doing when you are 26 years old? Studying at university or working for a living? Take a look at what Albert Einstein was doing at the age of 26.
100 years ago, Einstein was working in Switzerland. His hobby was physics. Without much money or help, he wrote five papers(論文) for a physics magazine. Three of these greatly changed the study of physics and our understanding of space, time, light and matter(物質(zhì)). His most famous work is on the Theory of Relativity(相對論). Einstein was given the Nobel Prize for his discoveries. Although he also did many other things later, the years 1905 has been called Einstein’s “Year of Wonders”. It has been 100 years since then. Because of this, the UN has named 05 the World Year of Physics.
Today, over fifty years after Einstein’s death, a question is asked,  “ Will there ever be another Einstein?” It may take a long time. After all, Einstein was born more than 200 years after Sir Isaac Newton, another great scientist. Besides, physics is a different field now, and education is different, too. Even if you can’t be the next great scientist, it is still helpful to remember some of the things that made Einstein great. He thought independently(獨立地) and read widely. He left with us a formula(公式) for life: If A is a success in life, then A="X+Y+Z." X is work, Y is play, and Z is keeping your mouth shut.
小題1:The year 1905 is known as Einstein’s “Year of Wonders” because           .
A.Einstein was working in Switzerland in 1905B.Einstein was 26 years old in 1905
C.Einstein made some very important discoveries in 1905D.Einstein studied physics in 1905
小題2:Why hasn’t there been another scientist as great as Einstein?
A.Because the study of physics is not enough.
B.Because it is hard to make important discoveries as Einstein did.
C.Because people don’t work hard any more.
D.Because physics is getting more and more difficult.
小題3:The UN has named 05 the World Year of Physics because           .
A.Einstein is 100 years old this year
B.Einstein has been dead for more than 50 years
C.there have been other great discoveries after Einstein’s death
D.it is the 100th year since Einstein’s “Year of Wonders”
小題4: What does Einstein’s formula for life mean?
A.Success means years of hard work.
B.Success means all study and no play.
C.Success means working hard, relaxing and not talking too much.
D.Success is a secret that nobody knows.

For a while, my neighborhood was taken over by an army of joggers. They were there all the time: early morning, noon, and evening. There were little old ladies in gray sweats, young couples in Adidas shoes, middle-aged men with red faces. "Come on!" My friend Alex encouraged me to join him as he jogged by my house every evening. "You'll feel great."
Well, I had nothing against feeling great and if Alex could jog every day, anyone could. So I took up jogging seriously and gave it a good two months of my life, and not a day more. Based on my experience, jogging is the most overvalued form of exercise around, and judging from the number of the people who left our neighborhood jogging army, I'm not alone in my opinion.
First of all, jogging is very hard on the body. Your legs and feet will be a real pounding ruining down a road for two or three miles. I developed foot, leg, and back problems. Then I read about a nationally famous jogger who died of a heart attack while jogging, and I had something else to worry about. Jogging doesn't kill hundreds of people, but if you have any physical weaknesses, jogging will surely bring them out, as they did with me.
Secondly, I got no enjoyment out of jogging. Putting one foot in front of the other for forty-five minutes isn't my idea of fun. Jogging is also a lonely pastime. Some joggers say, "I love being out there with just my thoughts." Well, my thoughts began to bore me, and most of them were on how much my legs hurt.
And how could I enjoy something that brought me pain? And that wasn't just the first week: it was practically every day for two months. I never got past the pain level, and pain isn't fun. What a cruel way to do it! So many other exercises, including walking, lead to almost the same results painlessly, so why jog?
I don't jog any more, and I don't think I ever will. I'm walking two miles three times a week at a fast pace, and that feels good. I bicycle to work when the weather is good. I'm getting exercise, and I'm enjoying it at the same time. I could never say the same for jogging, and I've found a lot of better ways to stay in shape.
72. From the first paragraph, we learn that in the writer's neighborhood ____.
A. jogging became very popular         B. people jogged only during the daytime
C. Alex organized an army of joggers   D. jogging provided a chance to get together
73. What was the writer's attitude towards jogging in the beginning?
A. He felt it was worth a try.                  B. He was very fond of it.
C. He was strongly against it.                         D. He thought it must be painful.
74. Why did the writer give up jogging two months later?
A. He disliked doing exercise outside.      B. He found it neither healthy nor interesting.
C. He was afraid of having a heart attack.  D. He was worried about being left alone.
75. From the writer's experience, we can conclude that ____.
A. not everyone enjoys jogging
B. he is the only person who hates jogging
C. nothing other than jogging can help people keep fit
D. jogging makes people feel greater than any other sport
