20．John Boyne is best known for his hugely successful novel，The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas．Now he has taken on the First World War，a similarly important historical event．Boyne's novel，Stay Where You Are and Then Leave is the story of Alfie Summerfield，a boy whose father is swept up in the excitement of the outbreak of the war and joins the army．Alfie's dad writes to his wife and son from the benches（戰(zhàn)壕），but after a couple of years the letters stop coming．
According to Alfie's mum，that's because dad is"on a secret mission for the government"．Alfie，however，suspects she might be lying and sets out to uncover the truth．At first he doesn't get far in discovering the mystery．Times are hard：his mum works as a nurse but can't make ends meet，so Alfie starts missing school to help out，earning money as a shoeshine boy at King's Cross Station in London．Then he has an amazing stroke of luck：one of his customers is an army doctor whose papers are blown away by the wind．Alfie helps to gather them，and in the process，discovers the true whereabouts of his father．
I'd been enjoying the story up to this point．Alfie is an easy character to like，and the relationship with his troubled mum is well-written．The other people in Alfie's wodd-his loving dad，his slighfly crazy granny have depth，too．However，from that moment at King's Cross，there's an increasingly fairytale-like feel to things，even though the story of Alfie's search to find his shell-shocked dad and bring him home is grounded in detail．There are more coincidences and the ending is fairytale，too．
There are other problems too．Early on，we are told that Alfie had often heard Prime Minister Asquith's name on the radio，which would have been difficult in 1914as the BBC only started broadcasting in 1922．And yet my final judgment on this book is positive．Stay Where You Are and Then Leave has its faults，but all in all it is a good，solid，engaging read．

Psychologists classify envy in two ways：negative and positive．With positive envy，you are motivated by another person's success and struggle to follow it．With negative envy，you want to cut the advantaged person down so you look better by comparison．Let's say you feel sufferings of envy after your rival（對手） at another firm gets promoted．Negative envy might drive you to destroy his success，but positive envy would inspire you to work harder and get promoted，too．
Studies show positive envy can be a great motivator（動力）．In a 2011study published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin，researchers in the Netherlands conducted a series of experiments with more than 200university students．Researchers found that when they caused feelings of positive envy----as opposed to admiration or negative envy----in the students，it drove them to want to study more and perform better on a test measuring creativity and intelligence．While admiration may feel better，the researchers found，it doesn't motivate performance like the pain and frustration of envy．
"Those painful sufferings of envy are there for an evolutionary（進化的） reason，"says Texas Christian University researcher Sarah E．Hill，"warning us that someone has something of importance to us．"Building on this theory，Dr．Hill and others conducted a series of experiments，published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology，to test whether envy improves attention and memory----the tools needed to copy a rival's steps to success．In one experiment，half of the participants were asked to recall past feelings of envy； the other half weren't．The two groups were then shown mock（模擬的） interviews of imaginary peers．The group filled with envy paid closer attention and better recalled details about the interview subjects．In other words，envy made them more astute（機敏的）．Not only can envy motivate us to reach for higher goals，it may even give us the cognitive push to get there．

attempt to obtain them through unhealthy ways．People may think they are overweight，due to the images

disorders．
  I'm not blaming the fashion industry by any means．It's not their fault that many people look up to
the models and expect to live a life like theirs．I am glad that ASA is raising its voices when discussing the
growing issue of body images in the fashion industry．By banning the photos and videos，speaking out
against them and pushing for doctors'notes from the models，it's pushing for the idea that the traditional
fashion industry's body image demands should be changed and something more needs to be questioned．
