I love camping. It’s my favorite way to spent the summer vacation. Last year, my family and me went camping in the countryside. It was one of the most excited experiences I had never had. We slept in a tent and went for a long walk every day. We cooked over a fire and the food always tasted wonderfully. For a whole week, I appreciated lovely mountain views or breathed fresh air. At the night, I heard the gentle wind blowing in the tree, and I felt so peaceful. It doesn’t cost many to camp. I believe it’s the best way to get close nature and enjoy its beauty.

Last week I took a journey deep into space, to the end of the solar system, and was pulled into a black hole. Then I took a trip to Brazil and experienced surviving an airplane crash in the jungle. After that, I joined some divers and went to the bottom of the ocean to see strange blind creatures that have never seen sunlight. For a break, I took part in some car racing and then skied down some of the most difficult mountains in the world. I ended my travels by meeting face to face with a dinosaur, the terrible T-Rex, and survived the experience!

I did all this in one great day at Futuroscope. Opened in 1987, Futuroscope is one of the largest space age parks in the world. This science and technology-based theme park in France uses the most advanced technology. Its 3-D cinemas and giant movie screens provide brand new experiences of the earth and beyond. Visitors can get close to parts of the world they have never experienced, going to the bottom of the ocean, flying through the jungle or visiting the edges of the solar system. The amazing, up-to-date information together with many opportunities for hands-on learning makes the world come to life in a completely new way for visitors. Learning centers throughout the park let visitors try their own scientific experiments, as well as learn more about space travel, the undersea world and much more.

I bought tickets for myself and my friends at the park’s entrance, but tickets are also available online. Futuroscope is not only for indiviudals, but is also the perfect mix of fun and learning for class outings. Classes or other large groups that let Futuroscope know their plans in advance can get the group admission rate. For anyone coming from out of town, Futuroscope has many excellent hotels, most of which provide a shuttle service to the park. If driving, Futuroscope is within easy reach of the freeway. Plan your trip well before starting, since Futuroscope has so many shows, activities and great souvenir shops that it is difficult to see them all. Come ready to walk a lot—be sure to wear some comfortable sneakers or other walking shoes!

1.What is Futuroscope?

A. A theme park for children in America.

B. A theme park that provides only fun and excitement.

C. A theme park that provides people with outstanding experience without leaving the earth and the present time.

D. A theme park that uses the most advanced technology to take people out of the earth and the present time.

2.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?

A. The things I did at Futuroscope.

B. The history of Futuroscope.

C. General information about how to visit the park.

D. A general description of the park.

3.According to the passage, which of the following is true?

A. Most of us will go to the bottom of the ocean or to the edges of the solar system.

B. Future theme parks are places for fun and excitement but not for learning.

C. Future theme parks allow people to see and do things without danger but with much money.

D. In the future theme parks, there are learning centers for people to try scientific experiments.

According to sociologists(社會學家), every modern industrial society has some form of social stratification(階層). Class, power and status are important in deciding people’s rank in society.

Class means a person’s economic position in society. A commonly used classification is lower class, middle class and upper class. While sociologists disagree on how these terms should be exactly defined, they do describe societies like the United States quite well. One study shows that 53% of Americans belong to the lower class, 46% the middle class, and 1% the upper class. Interestingly, a surgeon earning $500,000 a year and a bus driver earning $50,000 a year both regard themselves as the middle class!

Power refers to the amount of control a person has over other people. Obviously, people in positions of great power (such as governors) exercise(行使)big power, but people who take orders from others have less power. Power and class do not always go hand in hand, however. For example, the governor of a state has great power, but he or she may not belong to a corresponding (相應的) economic class. Generally, however, there is a relationship between power and class. To our knowledge, there aren’t too many people who aren’t millionaires in the U.S. Senate!

Status is the honor or respect attached to a person’s position in society. It can also be affected by power and class, but not necessarily so. For example, a university professor may have a high status but not belong to a high social class or have a lot of power over others.

1.What can we learn about “the middle class” from Paragraph 2?

A. People earning $50,000 a year belong to the middle class.

B. People generally consider bus drivers as the middle class.

C. Nearly half Americans belong to the middle class.

D. Sociologists have a clear definition of the middle class.

2.According to the text, we know that ________.

A. class is less important in deciding a person’s social rank

B. status refers to a person’s economic position in society

C. people with high status have a lot of control over others

D. power and class do not always correspond with each other

3.Which of the following shows the structure of the whole text?

●Berea College, Berea, Kentucky

The first interracial, co-educational college in the South, Berea specializes in attracting students who may be otherwise unable to afford a college education. Berea students come from families with an average household income of $30,000, which is why the school’s financial aid program is so important.

The college sits on 1,000 breathtaking acres, a portion of it on Puget Sound.

Considered an "experimenting" college because of its constantly changing curriculum, Hampshire College doesn’t feature a traditional grading system.
