When I was growing up, I always gave my mom an apron (圍裙)on her birthday.I wanted my own mom —   21  that apron I'd just given her, of course —to   22  me at the end of each afternoon bearing a plate of home-baked   23  as she waited breathlessly to hear about my   24  day at school.
Mom loved her family without question, but as an elementary-school teacher she had her own exciting days to   25   .She had hardly any extra time and   26 , and home-baked treats were rare in our house except   27  very special occasions.Since Mom didn't make cookies very often, the   28  of her baking were not always the same.Sometimes the cookies were browned a little more than planned or   29  together and other times the cookies weren't smooth.  30 , none of that bothered anyone in the family. All we   31  was swallowing whatever we were having for dinner that night so we could get to the cookies   32  us on the kitchen counter.
Now that I'm a mom myself, I can   33  all too well why my mother didn't always have the time to wear the apron. As was true with my mother, the list of things I need to do is often   34 than the day itself. But I also understand the desire to   35  the same yellow mixing bowl my mother used and make something special for my family every so often.Whatever I bake is met with approval, appreciation and good   36  by my husband and children. At some level, I believe they're   37  that I was thinking about them as I   38  the brown sugar into the butter or frosted the cake with their favorite kind of icing. They always know I love them.I  39  they know it a little better when I'm in a baking mood.
I'm sure my mother felt   40  the same way whenever she made cookies for us.Those cookies will always, in my mind, be the best treat.

An Italian couple are become the world’s oldest divorcees, after the 99—year—old husband found that his 96—year—old wife had an affair(婚外情) in the 1940s.
The Italian man, called by lawyers in the case as Antonio C, looking through an old drawer when he made the discovery a few days before Christmas.
In spite of the time that had passed since the affair, he was so upset that he immediately asked his wife of 77 years, named as Rosa C, whether it was true, and demanded a divorce.
Stricken by the guilt, she reportedly admitted everything but was unable to persuade her husband to reconsider his decision, though her children also did much more work.
She wrote letters to her lover during a secret affair in the 1940s, according to court papers released in Rome this week , which made people know the truth.
The couple are now preparing to split, though the marriage they built has lasted over nearly eight decades- they have five children, a dozen grandchildren and one great- grand child.
The discovery of the letters was the final problem for their marriage which had already run into difficulty- 10 years ago the husband briefly left their house in Rome and moved in with one of his sons, only to return a few weeks later.
The Italian thought the fierce split resulted from the couple’s southern blood- he is originally from Olbia in Sardinia, while his wife was born in Naples. The couple met during the 1930s when Antonio served as a young officer.
The case appears to set a new record, at least for the age of the oldest figures- the previous oldest couple to divorce were Bertie and Jessie Wood, both aged 98, from the UK.
That pair ended their 36- year marriage in 2009 when they were both two years away from their 100th birthdays. They got married in Elstree, Hertfordshire, in 1972 having both ended previous marriages, before moving to Falmouth, Cornwall four years later.

-American office workers spend an average of 52 hours a week at their desks, according to a statistic survey. Some might argue that not all that time is spent working, but still all those hours in windowless offices with artificial light can have an influence.
A few green additions could have a large effect on worker happiness, according to the survey led by Tina Cade from Texas State University.
“We pretty much found out that if you had windows and plants or even if you just had plants in your office, you were more satisfied with your job,” Cade told LiveScience. “We thought it was important for offices because a lot of times people are looking for ways to keep employees happy and do all these expensive things like building a gym. Maybe for less investment they could put in a few plants in important places.”
The team surveyed 450 office workers in Texas and the Midwest, asking questions about job satisfaction and the work environments. When asked about their overall life quality,82 said they felt “content” or “very happy”. Only 69 percent of those who work with plants but without windows, and 60 percent of those who have windows but no plants, said they felt this way.
The group of people who work without plants or windows were  the most dissatisfied, with only 58 percent of them saying that overall they were “content” or “very happy”. While no one who works with plants, windows,or both reported they felt “miserable”, 0.8 percent of those who work in offices without either said they were “miserable”. “I was really surprised that having a plant in your office appeared to be more beneficial than having a window in your office,” Cade said. “Everybody says, ‘I need a window!’ but actually it seemed like a plant could be a suitable alternative.”
小題1:What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Green plants can increase job satisfaction.
B.An easier way to increase job satisfaction.

D.Who are happy with their job environment.
小題2:Among the 450 people surveyed, ________.

C.0.8 percent of them feel dissatisfied
D.a(chǎn)bout 18 percent of them are satisfied
小題3: According to the survey, the group of people who work without plants or windows ______.
A.didn’t feel content at all
B.a(chǎn)ll suffered from work pressure
C.were the most dissatisfied
D.worked with low efficiency
小題4: Which of the following statement is true?
A.The employers want to do little to keep employees happy.

A federal agency on Tuesday called for a ban on all cellphone use by drivers -- the most far-reaching recommendation up to now — saying its decision was based on a decade of investigations into distraction-related(與分散注意力有關(guān)的) accidents, as well as growing concerns that powerful mobile devices are giving drivers even more reasons to look away from the road.
As part of its recommendation, the National Transportation Safety Board is urging states to ban drivers from using hands-free devices, including wireless headsets. No state now has made laws to ban such activity, but the Board said that drivers faced serious risks from talking on wireless headsets, just as they do by taking a hand off the wheel to hold a phone to their ears.
However, the concern was heightened by increasingly powerful phones that people can use to send e-mails, watch movies and play games.
"Every year, new devices are being on sale." she said. "People are attracted to update their Facebook page, to play music with cellphone, as if sitting at a desk. But they are driving a car."
The agency based its recommendation on evidence from its investigation of numerous crashes in which electronic distraction was a major contributing factor.
Ms. Hersman said she understood that this recommendation would be unwelcome in some circles, given the number of drivers who talk and text. But she compared distracted driving to drunken driving and even smoking, which required wholesale cultural shifts to change behavior.
"It's going to be very unpopular with some people." she said. "We're not here to win a popularity contest. We're here to do the right thing. This is a difficult recommendation, but it's the right recommendation and it is time."
The agency's recommendation is not required for states to adopt such a ban. And it won't likely be agreed upon by state lawmakers who are unwillingly to anger those who have grown accustomed to using their device behind the wheel.
The ban also deserves attention because it is the first call by a federal agency to end the practice completely, rather than the partial ban that some lawmakers have put in place by allowing hands-free talking.
