Now I’d like to share with you a strange experience I had a month before. It may sound funny, and it’s true. After a day’s hard work I went to bed early than usual. It was about two o’clock in the morning, and suddenly I woke up.I heard a noise.I got out of bed and went slow downstairs.I listened carefully.I could heard two men speaking quietly.I believed two thieves had broken into my house and I was really frightened,so I went back to upstairs, and immediately phone the police from my bedroom. The police arrived quickly. They opened front door with a special key and went into the living room. You can imagine what embarrassed I was when they came upstairs and told me we had turned the television off for me and everything was all right.

【答案】1. before→ago 2. and→but 3. early→earlier 4. slow→slowly 5. heard→hear 6. back 后面的to 去掉 7. phone→phoned 8. front前面加the 9. what→how 10. we→they

2. and→but,考查并列連詞。

10. we→they,考查人稱代詞。此處指的是the police,指的是他們,故人稱代詞應(yīng)為they。

Writing journals has been one of the most helpful things I've ever done. Through writing journals I've not only learned a lot about myself, but also removed a lot of obsessive (煩惱的) thoughts, by writing them down and considering them.
Journals give you a place to write down your honest thoughts without being afraid of what people will think of you. There are some ideas for writing journals:
Draw pictures
Write poetry or short stories
Goals: daily and long-term
Respond to a magazine article that you are interested in
Write about obsessive thoughts and try to find what's causing them
A list of things you are proud of (It can always increase your confidence when you need it)
Make a pro/con (贊成/反對) list when you're trying to make a decision: most of the time the decision will start to be clearer afterwards
The best way to start is to decide where you want to write your journal. (Though it's called the journal, it doesn't mean you can only do it in a “journal”) . If you like the traditional style of journals, then use a notebook, blank paper or graph paper, whichever you like best. If you prefer to go digital, start a blog. You can make the blog public or private, and it's a good way to keep track of articles or pictures you find online. (You can link to them.)
Even if you feel there's nothing for you to write about at first, you might be surprised to find that once you start, you can't stop.

【題目】Is there a magic cutoff period when offspring become accountable for their own actions? Is there a wonderful moment when parents can become spectators (旁觀者) in the lives of their children and shrug, "It' s their life," and feel nothing?

When I was in my twenties, I stood in a hospital corridor waiting for doctors to put a few stitches in my son's head. I was asked, "When do you stop worrying?" A nurse said, "When they get out of the accident stage." My mother just smiled faintly and said nothing.

When I was in my thirties, I sat on a little chair in a classroom and heard how one of my children talked incessantly, disrupted (打斷) the class, and was headed for a career making license plates. As if to read my mind, a teacher said, "Don't worry. They all go through this stage, and then you can sit back, relax, and enjoy them." My mother listened and said nothing.

When I was in my forties, I spent a lifetime waiting for the phone to ring and the cars to come home, the front door to open.

My friends said that when my kids got married I could stop worrying and lead my own life. I wanted to believe that, but I was haunted by my mother' s wan ( 淡淡的 ) smile and her occasional words, "You look pale. Are you all right? Call me the minute you get home."

Can it be that parents are sentenced to a lifetime of worry? Is concern for one another handed down like a torch to blaze the trail of human frailties and the fears of the unknown? Is concern a curse? Or is it a virtue that elevates us to the highest form of life?

One of my children became quite irritable recently, saying to me, "Where were you? I've been calling for three days, and no one answered. I was worried!!!"

I smiled a wan smile.
