The right pair of exercise shoes can do a lot to prevent discomfort and injuries, personal trainers say. Here are some shopping tips:

   1.    Depending on your workout, shoes designed for walking, running, tennis, cross-training or another specialty will provide the best support for your feet.

Shop when you normally exercise.Feet actually get bigger throughout the day, sometimes swelling up as much as a half-size by nighttime.    2.

Try them on.Never grab a pair of exercise shoes based only on the size of footwear you normally buy.Bring the type of socks you’d wear to work out and go for a walk through the store.

  3.    You should be able to spread your toes out comfortably.Make sure there’s about a half-inch of space between them and the front of the shoe. The back should fit snugly (warmly and comfortably) against your heel and not move up and down.If your feet are different sizes, buy based on the larger one.

Talk to an expert.Shoe salesmen and personal trainers can study your stride (步伐) and the shape of your feet.   4.

  5.    Many trainers recommend switching footwear every three to five months, if possible, to maintain(保持)proper cushioning and support. One tip: if you have to tie your shoes very tightly to feel a good amount of support, they may be ready to go.

A.Think about how much you can afford to buy the workout shoes.

B.Consider your type of exercise.

C.Focus on fit.

D.So don’t shop first thing in the morning if you often work out in the evening.

E.Pay more attention to new style shoes

F.Replace worn shoes regularly.

G.Usually they can recommend the best shoes to guard against injuries.

Ten years ago I used to be very fit. I rode a bike to work and I got a lot of exercise at weekends. I used to play tennis a lot and go for long walks. In those days I didn’t earn very much. I had a job in an office. It wasn’t a very good job but I had a lot of time to do the things I enjoyed doing.

Then, about eight years ago, I got a much better job. The pay was better, but the hours were a lot longer. I bought a car and drove to work every day. I began to take people out to lunch. And I began to put on weight, too. I stopped playing tennis and going for long walks at weekends because I just didn’t have any time for things like that any more.

There’s a lot of stress in my job. Perhaps that’s why I started drinking more than I used to. For example, I used to have only half a glass of whisky when I got home, but then I started filling my glass to the top, and instead of having one glass, I would have several. I started smoking a lot, too. I never used to smoke at all.

Two months ago I had a heart attack. At first I just couldn’t believe it. Luckily it wasn’t very serious. The doctor advised me to stop smoking and to eat less. He also advised me to work less and get more exercise. But I just haven’t any time! My job takes everything out of me!

Sometimes I wonder if I should get another job. Perhaps I could do something as I used to. But if I do that, I won’t earn as much. I have a family to support. I have to think of them, too. I just don’t know what I should do. What do you think?

1.Compared with ten years ago, what is worse for the author now?

A.His job.                               B.His pay.

C.His means of transport.                   D.His health.

2.According to the passage, when the author got the better job, which of the following is NOT true?

A.He got higher pay.                       B.His working hours weren’t long.

C.He found it very stressful.                 D.He had little free time at weekends.

3.After the author had a heart attack, the doctor advised him ____________.

A.not to work any longer

B.to take a long vacation abroad

C.to stop smoking and take exercise

D.not to eat out any more

4.What can we learn about the author?

A.The author is not sure what he should do now.

B.The author has taken the doctor’s advice already.

C.The author has got another new job.

D.The author feels much better now.

下面文章有5處需要填入合適的內(nèi)容。請(qǐng)從以下選項(xiàng)(A、B、C、D、E和F)中選出最恰當(dāng)?shù)膬?nèi)容 。

A. Keep your expectations realistic

B. Call a friend right before the date

C. Show up on time

D. Dress comfortably

E. Make eye contact

F. Telling the truth

Many of us get nervous just at the mention of a first date, but it really doesn't have to be such a big deal if you' re prepared. That's where this article comes in. After interviewing hundreds of singles all over the U.S about their first date experienced, we've put together a list of first date dos and don' ts to help out.

1. ___________

Staring at your hands, at the table, or at the guy in the blue shirt sitting at the next table doesn't exactly say "I dig you". You might do that out of shyness on your part, but keep in mind that the person sitting in front of you might not understand that and take it personally. Of course don't stare too hard, it might look a little freaky, but make sure your eyes meet often enough to keep both of you going.

2. ____________

It' s never cool when someone keeps you waiting, so don't keep them waiting either. And NO-a fashionably late entrance will NOT make you look better. You'll just look rude and inconsiderate. If you' re feeling anxious before a date, keep in mind that your date might be feeling anxious as well, so don' t prolong their suffering any more than necessary.

3. _____________

As exciting as dating someone new can seem, you' re better off not expecting to meet Prince Charming right off the hat. If you keep your expectations realistic, good date will be a pleasant surprise and lousy date won' t matter as much.

4. _____________

By comfort, I don't mean sweatpants and laundry-day underwear. But it is a first date, so you don' t want to be overdressed either. What if your date shows up in jeans and a sweater and you' re all about sequins, silk and spike heels? Instead, you should definitely go for a nice and attractive yet comfy outfit, with comfortable shoes. If you hit it off and go walking around, you want to avoid being cold or getting blistered feet. You can easily go for a casual but sexy look and pass the first date treat with flying colors.

5. _____________

If you didn't feel any sparks flying between the two of you, tell your date gently but honestly. Nobody's feelings should have to get hurt. On the other hand, if you did feel that you clicked, forget about the supposed "dating rules" that say you should wait a few days before calling him or her again. Listen to your heart and go ahead and call if you want to. If the feeling is mutual, your date will be happy, and maybe even relieved, that you picked up the phone first.
