11.In the fall of 1985,I was a bright-eyed girl heading off to Howard University,aiming at a legal career and dreaming of sitting on a Supreme Court bench somewhere.Twenty-one  years later I am still a bright-eyed dreamer and one with quite a different tale to tell.
My grandma,an amazing woman,graduated from college at the age of 65.She was the
first in our family to reach that goal.But one year after I started college,she developed cancer.I made the choice to withdraw from college to care for her.It meant that school and my personal dream would have to wait.
Then I got married with another dream:building my family with a combination of adopted(收 養(yǎng)的) and biological children.In 1999,we adopted our first son.To lay eyes on him was Fantastic and very emotional.A year later came our second adopted boy.Then followed son No.3.In 2003,I gave birth to another boy.
You can imagine how fully occupied I became,raising four boys under the age of 8!Our
home was a complete zoo-a joyous zoo.Not surprising,I never did make it back to college full-time.But I never gave up on the dream either.I had only one choice:to find a way.That meant taking as few as one class each semester.
The hardest part was feeling guilty about the time I spent away from the boys. They often wanted me to stay home with them. There certainly were times I wanted to quit, but I knew I should set an example for them to follow through the rest of their lives.
In 2007,I graduated from the University of North Carolina.It took me over 21 years to get my college degree!
I am not special,just single-minded.It always struck me that when you're looking at a big challenge from the outside it looks huge, but when you're in the midst of it,it just seems normal.Everything you want won't arrive in your life on one day.It's a process.Remember:
little steps add up to big dreams.

解答 CDBA
21  C 細(xì)節(jié)理解題.由第一段第一句中的dreaming of sitting on a Supreme Court bench可知,作者去霍華德大學(xué)時(shí)就夢(mèng)想著能夠坐在美國(guó)聯(lián)邦最高法院的長(zhǎng)凳上,即她渴望成為一名法官.
22  D 細(xì)節(jié)理解題.由第二段第三、四句"I made the choice to withdraw from college to care for her.It meant that school and mypersonal dream would have to wait."可知,作者在大二時(shí)退學(xué)回家是為了生病的祖母.
23   B 主旨大意題.最后一段的最后一句"Remember:little steps add up to big dreams."是該段的主題句,意思是:"不積跬步,難以至千里(每一小步都能積累成偉大的夢(mèng)想)"與Little by little, one goes far."千里之行,始于足下."意思相同;.而Failure is the mother of success."失敗是成功之母.";Every coin has two sides."凡事都有兩面性.";Wellbegun,half done."好的開(kāi)始是成功的一半."

1.A new study in West Africa shows how farm irrigationsystems powered by the sun can pro-duce more food and money for villagers. The study-in Benin found that solar-powered pumpsare effective in 8upplying water, especially during the long dry season.
Sub-Saharan Africa is the part of the world with the least food security. The United Na-tions Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that more"than one biillion of the world's peo-ple faced hunger last year.Around 265 million of them live'south of the Sahara Desert:Lack of  rainfallis one oftheir main causes offood shortages..
Jennifer Bumey from Stanford University in Califomia led the study. The research team helped build three solar-powered drip irrigation-(滴灌),systems in northem Benin. Between 30 and 35 women used each system to pump water from the ground or a stream. Each woman was responsible for farming her own 120 sqrurre meters of land. They also farmed other land  collectively.
The solar-powered irrigation systems produced an average of nearly two tons of vegetables per montb. During the first year, the women.kept a monthly average of almost rune kilograms of vegetables for home use. They sold the surplus produce at local markets. The eamings greatly increased their ability to buy food during the dry season which can last six to nine months. Peo-ple in the'two villages with the systems were able to eat three to five more servingsof yegetables per day.But making the surplus available at markets also had a wider effect.
The study compared the villages with two others where women farmed with traditional methods like carrying water in buckets. The amount of vegetables eaten in those villages also  increased, though not as much. The researchers note that only four percent of the croplamd in sub-Saharan Africa is irrigated. Using solar power to pump water has higher costs at first. But    the study says it can be more economical in the long term than using fuels like gasoline, diesel  or kerosene. And solar power is environmentally friendly.

15.Hemrietta(aged 16):The biggest problem with the environment is the ozone layer(臭氧層); there's a hole,and it's getting bigger.It's made by cars and aeroplanes-things give off fumes.There should be law that you aren't allowed to go to school by cars because the fumes go up into the ozone layer and mess it up.
Erym(also aged 16):The ozone layer's like a piece of paper covering a rock.It's meant to protect us.I'm scared that the hole will get bigger and move around the world and people will get cancer.I think about it sometimes in bed.That could happen in our time.We should stop using aerosols(噴霧),because they get pressed and all the poisons come out.And we could use horses instead of cars.
Hemrietta:We could get tandems--longer bikes,so children could ride on the back.Cars should be very,very expensive.I heard a woman on the radio saying she didn't care about the ozone layer because she wouldn't be alive,but it's our family who will die.
Erym:You also get bad pollution from burning down the rainforest.People should leave things alone if they don't own them.There should be fines for destroying the rainforest.And we should give money to poor people in Africa.
Hemrietta:We should spread out the people equally."All those who want to live in Africa,put your hands up!"And then we could spread out the food.There's enough to go around.We could easily grow it.England's a very rich and greedy country.
Erym:We use up far more of the earth than people in Africa,so it's a good idea for the whole world to discuss the environment,but not prime ministers,because they always vote for their own side.The Queen should go instead.

A.Prime ministers should vote for their own side
B.Their families will die as a result of the destruction of the ozone layer
C.We should protect the environment in Africa
D.People should use environmentally-friendly transportation instead of cars
68.What view does Hemrietta hold?D
A.People shouldn't be allowed to use cars.
B.People live equally everywhere.
C.The prime ministers of the UK have taken proper measures.
D.Students should ride bikes instead of cars.
