Dear Sir,

I'm writing to you for the mobile phone which I buy on 20th August 2016 at Attracting Shopping. Ten days after that, it didn't ring or could it send short messages. Then I reported it to the seller, but was told that the model had been selling out and I had to wait at least three month for a new one. Then I wanted it to repaired, but he said since it was a new model, it was impossible to fixing it without the right spare parts. How disappointing I was by hearing that! How can I wait that long? However, I have to write to you and ask you to have the phone replaced within a week or return me back the money.

I'm looking forward to your early reply!

Sincerely yours

Li Hua

【答案】

【1】buybought

【2】ornor

【3】sellingsold

【4】monthmonths

【5】to后加be

【6】fixingfix

【7】disappointingdisappointed

【8】byon

【9】HoweverTherefore

【10】去掉back

【5】to后加be 此處是動(dòng)詞不定式一般式的被動(dòng)形式作賓語補(bǔ)足語,表示被修理,故在to后加be。

【8】byon 固定形式:on doing sth一……

1.though/altjough/while/in spite of/despite(盡管)不能和but在同一句中出現(xiàn);because/as/since/because of不能和so在同一句中出現(xiàn);return不能和back在同一句中出現(xiàn);repeat不能和again在同一句中出現(xiàn);enter不能和in/into在同一句中出現(xiàn)。

Many kids dont drink enough water daily, according to a new study. The studys lead author, Erica Kenney, at first planned to look into the amount of sugary drinks kids were drinking in schools. However, during her research she found that many kids were simply not drinking enough water.

Kenney and her team examined data from a group of 4,000 children, aged 6 to19. The data was taken from the National Health and Nutrition Survey, a study on the health of children in the United States done each year by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

While looking through the survey results, she noticed that more than half of the kids who took part in the study were dehydrated (脫水的). Of that group, boys were 76% more likely than girls not to have enough water in their system. Nearly one quarter of the kids in the survey reported drinking no plain water at all.

These findings highlight (突出) a possible health issue that wasnt given a lot of attention in the past, Kenney said in a statement. Even though for most of these kids this is not an immediate and great health risk, this is an issue that could really be reducing quality of life and well-being for many children and youth.

The United States-National Agriculture Library says average kids need between 10 to 14 cups of water every day. This water can come from a mix of drinks and foods that contain high amounts of water, such as celery, melons or tomatoes. It is also suggested that fluids (液體) come from water instead of sugary drinks that are high in calories and can lead to weight problems.

【1】What was Erica Kenneys purpose in doing the study?

A. To study if kids drink enough water daily.

B. To prove that sugary drinks are harmful to kids

C. To show what kind of sugary drinks kids love.

A. school kids cannot find drinkable water easily

B. boys are more likely to get dehydrated than girls

C. sugary drinks are very popular with school kids

D. most kids know the importance of drinking plain water

【3】From the last paragraph we learn that kids________.

A. should drink plain water to lose weight

B. can try to take in water from sugary drinks

C. can eat celery, melons and tomatoes for water

D. should drink no more than 10 cups of water every day

【4】The text mainly tells us that many kids __________.

A. dont like drinking water

B. prefer sugary drinks to water

C. are at risk of health problems

D. dont drink enough water daily

It was unusually quiet in the emergency room on December 25. I was the nurse on duty that day. I didn’t think there would be any patients, sighing about having to work on Christmas. Just then five people showed up at my desk, a pale woman and four small children.

“Are you all sick?” I asked.

“Yes,” she said weakly and lowered her head.

But when it came to descriptions of their problems, things got a little unclear. Two of the children had headaches, but it seemed that their headaches didnt cause any suffering. Two children had earaches, but only one could tell me which ear was affected. The mother complained of a cough but seemed to work to produce it.

Something was wrong, but I didn’t say anything but explained that it might be a little while before a doctor saw her. She responded, “Take your time; it’s warm here.”

When I checked the form they filled out, there was no address—they were homeless. I looked out at the family gathering close together by the Christmas tree. The little one was pointing at the television and saying something to her mother. The oldest one was looking at something on the Christmas tree.

The nurses on duty felt pity for this family just trying to get warm on Christmas. We planned to prepare a meal for our Christmas guests. We needed presents. We put together oranges and apples in a basket. We collected from different candies and other things available that could be presents. Our team worked to meet the needs of a family who just wanted to be warm on Christmas Day.

Later, as the family walked to the door to leave, the four-year old came running back, gave me a hug and whispered, “Thanks for being our angels today.”

Sunny 31st, July

It was sunny today and I was in a good mood. Tired of studying or the noise of city life, I come to the ecology park to enjoy scenery and get relaxing in the afternoon.

While I arrived at the park, what came into its sight were the thick green trees. The air was fresh. In addition, I could clearly see a path around the pond. Lying on the grasses decorated with various flowers, I felt with ease because all that I wanted was peace inside.

Therefore, with time going by quickly, the sun was setting in the west. So I had to return back home. I would never forget such romantic experience, which was really beyond description.

A young couple bought a big house from two sisters, whom had lived there for 30 years. The house was nice and the couple bought it at low price.

However, winter wasn’t far away at the time. The couple was a little bit worrying about how they would keep the house warm, since it didn’t have any fireplaces. And later, they thought that if the sisters were able to stay warm and comfortably in the house during the winter, so could they. With that in mind, they decided not to make any preparations for the cold weather.

Winter arrived and temperatures soon drops below zero. The large house became freezing cold, with frost(霜)covered the walls. Finally, the husband couldn’t bear with it anymore. She called the sisters to ask them how they managed to keep warm during the winter. “The cold weather never bothered us,” one of the sister told the husband. “We just went on vacation to Thailand every winter.”

【題目】Want to improve your math skills without working hard? Simply zap (擊打) the brain with a weak current of electricity and then, all your problems will be solved! At least that's the claim being made by a team of British scientists from London's Oxford University.

The main aim of the experiment, conducted on a group of student volunteers from Oxford University and University College London, was to test if parts of the brain could be shocked into getting it to work better with numbers.

To test this, 15 students, divided into three groups, were asked to solve the same two mathematical problems every day for a week. The problems, which involved identifying the larger of two numbers and plotting one on a number line, were made a little more challenging by replacing the numbers 19 with symbols.

However, before starting the test, two of the groups were subjected to a 20minute session of a light electric current to the parietal lobe, which the scientists believe is the brain's number cruncher (能迅速運(yùn)算者). For the first group the current flow was passed right to left, while for the second it was transmitted left to right. The third group received no help at all.

The group that got zapped right to left seemed to show an amazing improvement in their math skills. However, the ones that got zapped left to right were reduced to the level of almost sixyear olds! The results for the people who got no help were somewhere in between.

While scientists are not sure why the direction of the current would make such a difference, they believe that zapping it from the right side, seemed to turn up the activity of the brain cells to math, while going the other way turned or closed them down. Luckily, the impact is expected to last for only six months!

While this is great news, do not fire your math tutor yet. That's because the research, no matter how successful, is not being done to aid lazy students, but to help people who suffer from dyscalculia (計(jì)算障礙), a disease which makes people unable to cope with simple daytoday numerical issues, like counting change or figuring out their expenses.

1In which time order was the experiment carried out?

a.Divide the students into groups.

b.Test the students with problems.

c.Give some students some electric zapping.

A. a,b,c B. a,c,b

C. b,a,c D. c,a,b

2From the passage, we can infer that ________.

A. the direction of zapping the brain is very important

B. the impact of zapping the brain will last forever

C. scientists don't know how to zap the brain correctly

D. people with dyscalculia can't recognize numbers

3What is the aim of the experiment?

A. To help students to improve their math grades.

B. To test which part of the brain controls calculation.

C. To help people who suffer from a certain disability.

D. To study whether a light electric current will damage students' brain.

4What would be the best title for the passage?

A. Dyscalculia is no longer a problem

B. A good way to improve your math skills

C. Benefit from zapping the brain

D. Improve math skills by zapping the brain
