3.Drinking more than two alcoholic drinks daily in middle-age may raise your stroke(中風(fēng)) risk more than traditional factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes(糖尿。,according to new research in the American Heart Association journal Stroke.
In a study of 11,644middle-aged Swedish twins who were followed for 43years,researchers compared the effects of an average of more than two drinks daily ("heavy drinking") to less than half a drink daily ("light drinking").
The study showed that:
•Heavy drinkers had about a 34percent higher risk of stroke compared to light drinkers.
•Mid-life heavy drinkers (in their 50s and 60s) were likely to have a stroke five years earlier in life irrespective of genetic and early-life factors.
•Heavy drinkers had increased stroke risk in their mid-life compared to well-known risk factors like high blood pressure and diabetes.
•At around age 75,blood pressure and diabetes appeared to take over as one of the main influences on having a stroke.
Past studies have shown that alcohol affects stroke risk,but this is the first study to pinpoint differences with age."We now have a clearer picture about these risk factors----how they change with age and how the influence of drinking alcohol shifts as we get older,"said Pavla Kadlecová,M.Sc.,a statistician at St.Anne's University Hospital's International Clinical Research Center in the Czech Republic.
Researchers analyzed results from the Swedish Twin Registry of same-sex twins who answered questionnaires in 1967-1970.All twins were under age 60at the start.By 2010,the Registry had provided 43years of follow-up,including hospital discharge(出院) and cause of death data.
Researchers then sorted(整理) the data based on strokes,high blood pressure,diabetes and other cardiovascular (心血管)incidents.Almost 30percent of participants had a stroke.They were categorized(將…分類) as light,moderate,heavy or non-drinkers based on the questionnaires.Researchers compared the risk from drinking and health risks like high blood pressure,diabetes and smoking.Among identical twin pairs,siblings(兄弟姐妹) who had a stroke drank more than their siblings who hadn't had a stroke,suggesting that mid-life drinking raises stroke risks regardless of genetics and early lifestyle.
The study is consistent (一致)with the American Heart Association's recommended limit of two drinks a day for men and one for women.That's about 8ounces of wine for a man and 4ounces for a woman.
Regular heavy drinking of any kind of alcohol can raise blood pressure and cause heart failure or irregular heartbeats over time,in addition to stroke and other risks."For mid-aged adults,avoiding more than two drinks a day could be a way to prevent stroke in later productive age,"Kadlecová said.

The long-legged pup in North Smithfield,Alabama, was caught in a storm his family's garage last spring. His family thought he would be safe there, but the storm broke the garage door and Mason disappeared.

We always looked forward to going to the drive-in!Mom would fill a big bag with home-made popcorn. On the way there,Dad would make a special stop at the penny candy store, where we were all allowed to fill a little brown bag with all kinds of penny candy. We were so excited,as we carried our treasuresback to the car, knowing we couldn't eat it until the car-toon began.
We would get there early,so that we could play on the playground, right under the big screen. As soon as it started to get dark, the screen lit up,and we would race bake to the car to get our candy.

We would get home around 2 am,pretty late for us.Mom helped us drag ourselves and our pillows to our beds and dad carried in the little ones.

15.Last winter,when I was heavily pregnant(懷孕的),I was visiting my sister and brother-in-law's house and had to park in a nearby parking lot because they didn't have accessible parking.The snow was extremely heavy and there was lots of ice on the ground---not many people had ventured out(冒險(xiǎn)出去) that evening!
When I returned to my car around 11p.m.,I noticed that I was the only car left.Nervously,I hopped into the car and let it warm up a bit.When I finally tried to drive away,my wheels began to spin(打滑).I was stuck!I spun and spun and wondered what to do.
All of a sudden,in my rear view mirror(后視鏡),I saw four teen-aged boys approaching my car.They were walking side by side in a line and dressed a bit like gang members---at least I thought that's what they looked like.My car was in a very isolated area and I began to panic.I was certain they were coming to my car to harm me.Terrified,I just froze.One of the young men tapped on my window and said"Excuse me,Ma'am,can we help you?You seem stuck."Still afraid and fearing the worst,I said"I am stuck."And the young man said"It's okay,stay in your car and we'll push you out of the snow."And they did!
When they finally got me out of the snow,they smiled and waved.I rolled down my window and thanked them,embarrassed to have judged them so poorly.

12.Have you ever been afraid?Do thunder and lightning make your heart beat faster?Maybe your mouth goes dry when your teacher says you will be given a test,or your palms sweat when it's your turn to give your report in front of the class.Perhaps you get butterflies in your stomach when you see the bully(仗勢(shì)欺人者) who chooses you.
We all have fears sometimes.That's true no matter how big we are or how brave we can be.Fear of getting too close to a campfire may save you from a bad burn.And fear of getting a bad grade on a test may make you study hard.Being nervous can also sharpen your senses and help you perform better during a track meet.Some people even enjoy being a little scared.That's why they like to watch scary movies.
Usually,our bodies go into fight only when there is something to fear.However,sometimes this happens when there doesn't seem to be anything to be frightened about.When you feel scared but there doesn't seem to be a clear reason,that's called anxiety.For some kids,the feeling of anxiety or worry can happen at any time.For others,it might appear only at certain times,like when they are leaving their home or family to go somewhere.For some people,this feeling of anxiety happens almost all the time and gets in the way of what they want to do.
Tell your parents if your anxiety becomes strong and is getting in the way of what you want to do.Your parents can take you to a doctor,who can help to find out if a medical problem is making you feel anxious.But you can also try these ways to kill the feeling yourself.
