[1]It’s a fine line parents walk as they try to guide their kids into adulthood. You want to protect but not treat too kindly, advise but not control and let them live their own lives—with some input,of course.
[2]When your child asks for help or advice, give only what was asked for.If your Child asks you to tie a particular hard-to-tie knot(繩結(jié))for a project she is working on,just tie the knot.Don’t start helping with the rest of the project or making suggestions on how to do it.She wants to do it herself,in her own way.Befor                 which your child has not askd for, count to ten.Perhaps in those seconds you’ll decide that the advice would do no good,or isn’t really that important, and you’ll drop it.If the advice still seems important, you will give it,but the pause may lead you to give it in a more thoughtful way.
[3]Remember that your child is not you and is not a reflection of you.We mak a serious mistake if we try to shape our children into copies of ourselves,or if we think of them as extensions or reflections of ourselves. We need to help them to be them, not try to turn them into us or into something that we think will make us look good.
[4]Our primary responsibility to our children is not that of telling them moment-to-moment or day-to-day how to behave but providing them with a healthy environment in which to develop. For example, one of the best ways you can help your kids is to work with your community to create safe-enough outdoor places to play in your neighborhood.

People who drink a little, exercise, give up smoking and eat five servings of fruit and vegetables each day live on average 14 years longer than people who have none of these behaviors, researchers said on Tuesday . A collection of evidence has shown that these things contribute to healthier and longer lives, but the new study actually proved their mixed effect, the British team said.
“These results may provide further support for the idea that even small differences in lifestyle may make a big difference to health, ” the researchers wrote in the journal PLOS Medicine.
Between 1993 and 1997 the researchers questioned 20,000 healthy British men and women about their lifestyles. They also tested every participant’s(參與者) blood to measure vitamin C intake, an indicator(指標(biāo))of how much fruit and vegetables people ate.
Then they assigned(分配,分派)the participants---aged 45-79 a score of between 0 and 4,giving one point for each of the healthy behaviors. After allowing for age and other factors(因素) that could affect the likelihood of dying, the researchers found people with a score of 0 four times as likely to die.
The researchers, who tracked deaths among the participants until 2006,also said a person with a health score of 0 had the same risk of dying as someone with score of 4 who was 14 years older.
The lifestyle change with the biggest benefit was _____________________ ,which led to an 80 percent improvement in health, the study found. This was followed by eating fruits and vegetables. Drinking a little and keeping active brought the same benefits, Kay-Tee Khaw at the University of Cambridge said. Do you have the four healthy living habits?

Maybe you are an average student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s how.
Plan your time carefully.
When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After    , you should make a schedule of your time. First arrange your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don’t forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all the problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
Find a good place to study.
Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios or TV! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.
Make good use of your time in class.
Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says. Really listening in class means less work later. Taking class notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
Study regularly.
When you get home from school, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher has mentioned in class. If you know what your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read the material. This will help you understand the next class. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude towards the tests.
The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you to remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be overly worried.
There are other methods that might help you with your studying. You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.
Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.
For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person's health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷爾蒙).They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc.In general the person feels excited and ready to act.
Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.

Directions: Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words.
There’s worrying news for any parent who’s struggled with a headstrong young child. Some scientists recently claim that children who have low levels of self-control, which is the earliest demands that society places on children, at the age of three are more likely to have health and money problems and a criminal record by the age of 32, regardless of background and IQ. That is to say, willpower as a child really does influence your chances of a healthy and wealthy adulthood.
They found that children with low self-control were more likely to have health problems in later life including high blood pressure, being overweight, breathing problems and sexually transmitted infections. They were also more addicted to substances such as tobacco, alcohol and drugs, more likely to be single parents, have difficulty managing money and have criminal records.
Researchers from Britain, the US and New Zealand analyzed data from two large studies in which children completed a range of physical tests and interviews to assess genetic and environmental factors that can shape their lives.
The participants’ self-control was assessed by teachers, parents, observers and the children themselves and included things like having low frustration tolerance, lacking persistence in reaching goals, being over-active and acting before thinking.
Researchers then found that when the participants reached their early 30s, this impulsivity and relative inability to think about the long-term gave them more problems with finances, including savings, owning a home and credit card debt.
The findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal.

Even if you really enjoy your job, it’s still possible to battle boredom as you work. You may not be able to make big changes—or change your job—but you can make small adjustments to your routine that can make every day seem, well, a little less routine.
1. Switch Your Seat
Change your outlook at the office by changing your office. Ask your supervisor to help you find a new desk. Even switching desks with a neighboring coworker can offer a fresh atmosphere.
If it's not possible to change your location, see if you can change your desk’s direction. A new view can be just as refreshing as a new location.
2. ______________
Start and end your day in a different way. Consider a new mode of transportation, if it’s possible. Take a subway. Ride a bike on sunny days. Carpool with a coworker. Use a new route to get to your job. You needn't change it for ever—just long enough to help you escape the boredom.
3. Find a New Work Style
Sick of attending that long-standing Monday morning meeting? Try to change it to the afternoon.
If you find yourself feeling most bored in the afternoons, try to arrange to do your favorite tasks then and tackle less desirable projects in the mornings.
If you usually communicate with coworkers via email and instant messaging, start dealing with people face to face. Increased communication with coworkers may help improve your mood.
4. Get and Set a Goal
If your work is short of objectives, it's no wonder that work has become boring. Identify a goal and set an “achieve by” date for it.
Your goal needn’t be noble as long as you have enough enthusiasm for it. Perhaps you want to make a new project. Maybe you’d like to pursue a promotion. Or you may even set a goal of finding a new job altogether. Whatever it is, actively move toward an objective.

【1】We're increasingly living in a world where physical activity has stopped being a day-to-day part of our lives. We have domestic appliances to wash and dry for us and cars to get us around, and with the decline in manual labour many of us spend our working day sitting at desks.
【2】 In fact, there's a well-established theory that moderate physical activity is, for most people, the best way to better health. If you start off doing too much too soon, you'll get fed up and stop, get injured or even make yourself ill. So what's the right amount of exercise to get fit and healthy without injuring yourself in the process?
【3】 According to the government, only 37 per cent of men and 24 per cent of women take enough exercise to get any benefit from it. ____________obesity, heart disease and other life-limiting conditions, the chief medical officer (the government's top doctor) recommends the following:
【4】 Adults should do a minimum of 30 minutes moderate-intensity physical activity, five days a week.
【5】You don't have to do the whole 30 minutes in one go. Your half-hour could be made up of three ten-minute bursts of activity spread through the day, if you prefer.
【6】The activity can be a 'lifestyle activity' (in other words, walking to the shops or taking the dog out) or structured exercise or sport, or a combination of these. But it does need to be of at least moderate intensity.
【7】People who are at specific risk from obesity, or who need to manage their weight because of a medical condition, need 45-60 minutes of exercise at least five times a week.

[ 1 ] Do you spend over an hour each day texting messages to your friends? Do you frequently ignore work, study, and other activities to check your phone for messages? Are you anxious and restless if you are separated from your mobile phone,9 Do you hardly ever use your phone to talk any more, and do your thumbs hurt from texting too much?
[2] If                   , then it is very possible that you are a textaholic. A textaholic can be defined as someone who is addicted to sending and receiving messages. The main symptoms are a strong desire to text messages, which takes precedence (優(yōu)先)over everything else, and bad moods, low spirits and a lack of self-confidence if messages fail to come in. The root of the problem, as with many addictions, is the desire to escape from emotional difficulties such as stress, atrxiety and relationship problems. Experts warn that text addiction is likely to become the most common form of addiction in the future, especially among the young.
[3] So what can you do if you think you may be a textaholic? The key is to get your life back in balance. Make sure you resist the urge to answer every message you receive, and consider leaving your mobile phone behind occasionally when you go out. Most importantly, make a point of spending quality time with friends and family, and make time to re-learn the art of face-to-face conversation instead of conducting your relationships by means of text messages. Not only will you save time and money, but you may also rediscover the pleasure of true communication.
