【題目】The office has always been a place to get ahead. Unfortunately, It is also a place where a lot of natural resources start to fall behind. Take a look around next time you’re at work. See how many lights are left on when people leave. See how much paper is being wasted. How much electricity is being used to run computers that are left on. Look at how much water is being wasted in the rest-rooms. And how much solid waste is being thrown out in the rubbish cans. We bet it’s a lot.

Now, here are some simple ways you can produce less waste at work. When you are at the copier, only make the copies you need. Use both sides of the paper when writing something less important. Turn off your lights when you leave. Use a lower watt bulb in your lamp. Drink your coffee or tea out of your mugs instead of single-use cups. Set up a recycling box for cans and one for bottles. And when you’re in the bathroom brushing your teeth or washing your face, don’t let the tap run. Remember, if we use fewer resources today, we’ll save more for tomorrow.

A. the disadvantages of working in an office

【題目】The Iron Lady

Margaret Thatcher, known as the Iron Lady, was one of the toughest political women in the world.

As the daughter of a businessman and mayor of Grantham, Margaret was educated at a very famous grammar school. 1 Upon graduation, she worked for four years as a research chemist. She then became a lawyer, doing an excellent job in taxation law, in 1954. Miss Margaret stood twice in elections for the Conservative Party before being elected to the House of Commons(下議院) in 1959. 2 After that she quickly became a spokesman for her party, and member of the Shadow Cabinet(影子內(nèi)閣).

She was elected leader of the Conservative Party in the following year. In May 1979, she became Britain’s first female prime minister, after the Conservatives regained power from Labor.

4 She fought against labor organizations. According to a figure reported by her government, traditional industries were reduced to around 15,000 in total and she also made social housing and public transport private.

She left office on November 28, 1990 after she failed to carry out a fixed rate local tax, which led to huge popular protest from within her party. In 1992, she was appointed to the House of Lords(上議院), as Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven. In the last few years of her life, she has been busy with writing and public speech. This caused her increasingly poor health. 5

Like other classmates, leaving the pond or chatting to each other from time to time, I fix my eyes on the water. After a while, I felt anything biting the end of my line, so I started to pull them out of the water. It was heavier than I had expected, but I lost my balance, fall right into the pond! That was my first fishing experience, a happier but embarrassing experience.
