be doing sth when…:正在做某事時(另外一件事情發(fā)生了),這是固定句型,不能使用while。故將while 改為when。

have some difficulty doing sth:做某事有困難。
故將but 改為and

故將his改為their。

get along with sb:與某人和諧相處。故將to改為with。

China and Western countries may have different cultural belief about certain animals. But when it come to pigs, we somehow reach an agreement which pigs are lazy, ugly, stupid and shameless. None of these words are exact positive to describe pigs. Therefore, the truth is that pigs have some good qualities. According to a paper publishing in 2017, pigs can tell from those who treat them well and those who don’t. Perhaps these are the qualities of pigs to keep it in mind—their intelligence, cuteness and patience. Besides, people born in the Year of the Pig were usually devoted to what they do. They have great sense of responsibility.

No matter what field you are in, there will likely come a time when you have to give a powerful speech to friends, colleagues, or even complete strangers. 1 However, being able to give great speeches is often a necessity for those looking to achieve success. Here are a few tips to help you make the entire process easier.

1. Get in the Right Mindset

Visualize yourself before your speech succeeding to help calm your nerves. 2 And you should remember that people want to see you succeed, they don't want to see you fail. If you get in the right mindset, you will find the rest comes much easier than you may imagine.

2. 3

Make sure that you focus on the point of your speech and the message that you are trying to get across. Don't worry about focusing on the fact that you are giving the speech or any of the props or visual aids that you may have. If you get nervous or stutter during your speech, don't apologize and just fix your attention on your speech.

3. Do Your Research

When it comes to preparing for your speech, it is not only important that you research the topic but that you research your audience as well. Know who you are speaking to. Also if you are able to greet some of the audience members and speak with them before hand, this is a great way to break the ice and feel more comfortable while speaking. 4 Make sure you also research the room. Arrive early so you feel comfortable in the room, and practice with the microphone or any equipment you will be using.

4. Practice

It may seem like a simple and rather obvious tip, but unfortunately, adequate practice is something that many people today avoid when it comes to speaking in public . 5, but it means practicing out loud, standing up in a similar position while giving your speech. Make sure that you practice in front of both the mirror and the audience.

A.Focus on the Point

B.Develop a Strong Message

C.Make sure you take several deep breaths before giving your speech

D.Practicing does not just mean reading the speech over and over again

E.Thus you won't feel as though you are speaking to a room of strangers

If you were like most kids, your mother must have told you there were three no-no’s when it came to your fingers: Don’t put them in an electrical outlet, don’t stick them up your nose (at least not in public), and don’t use them when you are counting. 1 But experts in education and cognition now believe that using your fingers to do math is not only a perfectly good idea but may even help children become superior students.

It certainly makes sense. When children count on their fingers, they take an abstract concept — mathematics — and translate it into the most basic and visual form 2. Even when we aren’t actually counting on figures, they still can help us on math problems.

3 It activates when we respond to heat, pressure, pain, or the use of a given finger.

Studying brain scans, researchers discovered that when students aged 8 to 13 work on subtraction (減法 ) equations, this region “l(fā)ights up” on the scans, even if the students aren’t using their fingers. The more complex the problem is, the more activities are detected.

The connection between finger use and math ability has been proved on old-fashioned math tests as well. With their eyes closed, first graders were asked to identify which of their fingers a researcher was touching. 4. When college students were given the same quiz, the highest scores once again performed best on calculation tests.

So what does all this mean? For one thing, parents and teachers shouldn’t discourage children from counting on their fingers. 5. Memorizing the multiplication tables may help, but it is not the best option. “I would like to see interesting and creative representations of ideas.” says Jo Boaler, a professor of math education.

Recently, a series of activities have been designed to strengthen students’ perception of their fingers. Maybe in the near future, there will be only two no-no’s regarding the use of fingers.

A.There is a section of the brain, called the somatosensory finger area.

B.Researchers also stress that students simply learn better using visual tools.

C.The first two laws of fingers are as true as ever.

D.That may sound simplistic, but the researchers offer an interesting explanation.

E.Researchers found those scoring highest on the finger-ID questions scored higher on a math test.

F.Researchers are unimpressed by those students who finish quickly as well.

G.In fact, experts believe the brain is built to “see” any process with our fingers.

Yesterday I watched a circus show. A girl rode an one-wheeled bike on a small table with a lot of flower on it. She didn’t knock down even one flower. Some little dogs also did a better job. One of them could calculate the number!

The most exciting program was to see a young man walk the tightrope. He stood on a rope with a balanced pole in his hands. Two girls stood on his head, which made himself have no alternative but keep holding up. Therefore, another two girls sat on the red belt tying to either end of a steel bar on his shoulder. The young man took his first step of great care. Every viewer held out his breath. At last he succeed in walking across the 8-meter-long tightrope.

Like clockwork, nearly every fourth February includes one extra day. February 29th, otherwise known as Leap Day, isn’t exactly a holiday. Instead, it’s there to keep your calendar consistent with the earth’s rotation (旋轉) around the sun.

According to History, com, Roman emperor Julius Caesar is the “father” of Leap Year. Until he came along, people used a 355-day calendar, which was 10.25 days shorter than the solar year. Roman officials were supposed add an extra month every now and then to keep the seasons exactly where they should be. But that didn’t work out all that well. When special occasions started shifting into different seasons around 45 BCE, Caesar consulted with astronomers and decreed (下令) that the empire should use a 12-month, 365-day calendar, which he named after himself, Caesar’s Julian calendar included a Leap Day every four years.

Though Leap Day keeps your calendar in line with the earth’s rotation around the sun, it causes a different kind of problem for leapsters. When should these February 29th babies celebrate their birthdays during the other three-quarters of their lives? Some party on February 28th, while others prefer a two-day celebration that spans the last day of February and the first day of March.

Leap Day can be a nuisance in the legal system. In 2006, a court in Massachusetts was deciding whether criminal John Melo could be released a day early since his 10-year sentence included a Leap Day. In the case, the judge decided that since the man was sentenced to prison for years, not days. Leap Day didn’t make a bit of difference.

Though a few timekeepers have pushed for calendars that don’t include Leap Day, almost all astronomers and societies agree that Leap Day is the best method to keep the calendar on track.

1Why was Leap Day created?

A.To celebrate special occasions.B.To honor Emperor Julius Caesar.

C.To keep pace with the solar year.D.To keep track of all the seasons.

2What is the problem with the birthday celebration of February 29th babies?

A.It is sometimes delayed.B.It lasts at least two days.

C.It has to be held every other year.D.It may take place on different dates.

3What does the underlined word “nuisance” in Paragraph 4 mean?

A.Joke.B.Topic.

C.Trouble.D.Mistake.

4what is the attitude of most astronomers towards Leap Day?

A.Critical.B.Supportive.

C.Doubtful.D.Cautious.
