Use More Facial Expression

One psychologist feels that our facial expression is responsible more than anything else for the impression others have of us. In fact, more than 50 percent of another’s impression, he believes, is influenced by the look on your face. Naturally a smile in which the eyes participate is extremely communicative. An unfriendly look often brings the same thing in return. People tend to mirror your expression, so try to show how you feel about a topic or an idea or the audience through your facial expression.

Rid Your Inner Fear

It’s natural to have some tension or nervousness when you appear before an audience. The way to handle it is to put it to work for you , get into action, as Shakespeare observed, action cures fear. There are only a few known ways to control fear. The first is to admit it , do the thing you fear and it will be the death of fear itself. Another simple aid at the last minute before you begin, is to take a few deep breaths, which will help keep your voice under control. In fact, if you’re thoroughly prepared, just taking a few deep breaths before you’re introduced will give you added confidence and balance. Other known ways to control nervousness and fear are to give yourself an encouraging talk or take some physical exercise.

Polish Your Voice

Our voice is the main instrument we possess for communicating with people. We all sound sensitive. So invest in a tape-recorder, practice your speech by speaking it into the microphone and then listen to it .You can even have others join in the evaluation of your strong points and your weaknesses or faults as well. Remember that Demosthenes and Winston Churchill both used pebbles in their mouths while practicing their speaking. Simply reading out loud can also help you improve your voice and develop a personal style.

Strengthen Your Memory

Psychologists tell us that most individuals don’t use above ten percent of their natural capacity for memory, that’s comparable to trying to run a car on one cylinder(汽缸).Why do most people use so little of their power of memory? Because they don’t practise the fundamentals of remembering. First and most important, it’s necessary to have a burning desire to remember; it’s difficult to recall anything without wanting to do so. Step two is concentration. Henry Ward Beecher once observed, one hour of intense concentration can accomplish more than years of dreaming. The next principle is repetition. We learned many things in school by repetition. When you hear a name for the first time, repeat it, spell it, write it down and review it. You’ll soon know it by heart.

Studies have shown that the fewer medicines a person has to take the more likely he or she will take them. Last week, a study was released about a new treatment that combines 5 medicines for heart disease in one pill. Salim Yusuf of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada was the lead investigator. He presented the findings at the American College of Cardiology Conference in Orlando, Florida.

The experimental drug is known as Polycap. It contains aspirin, a drug to lower cholesterol(膽固醇) and three medicines to lower blood pressure. The study was carried out at 50 health centers across India. More than two thousand people between the ages of forty-five and eighty took part in the study. All had at least one risk factor for heart disease. These include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or being severely overweight.

The people were divided into 9 groups of about 200 people each. One group took Polycap. The other groups took either a single drug or different combinations of the medicines in the Polycap pill. The study showed that Polycap lowered blood pressure and cholesterol without many side effects. Doctor Yusuf said the single pill, taken once a day, could reduce the average person's risk of heart disease and stroke by about half. The maker of Polycap, Cadila Pharmaceuticals of India, paid for the study.

Cardiovascular diseases(心血管疾病) of the heart and blood vessels are the number one cause of death around the world. These diseases kill more than seventeen million people every year. 80 percent of them are in low and middle income countries. Doctor Yusuf said the single pill treatment could revolutionize heart disease prevention. People would be more likely to take one pill a day than many pills. And one pill would cost less than several pills.

Other heart doctors say heart disease prevention is important but not necessarily with pills. They say patients might be able to get the same results with changes in diet and exercise.

Doctors say that more research on Polycap is needed. They say the drug should be tested on thousands more people, including those in different risk, age and ethnic groups.

Tanzania Tarangire is a national Park in Tanzania. The park itself covers an area of around 2,850 square kilometers, making it the sixth largest park of its kind in the country.I recently visited Tarangire to see what it was like….

One of the first sightings upon entering the park I found was a huge herd of elephants. Our guide told us that Tagrangire was probably the best place in Tanzania to find large herds of elephants. We continued to watch the elephants as they stood under trees and scratched themselves against the trees to hit the spot of an itch(癢處).

To the right of the elephant herd, we noticed a big tree! Our guide informed us this was a Baobab tree and that Tarangire was one of the best National Parks in Africa to see so many Baobab trees.

As we continued our drive through the park, we finally reached a watering hole. Our guide warned us that there were lions all around us.Most of them are resting in the shade under bushes, but there was one that was drinking from the watering hole directly in front of us.We then noticed there were a couple of fresh zebra corpses(尸體)— it seemed as if the lions which were resting had killed them!

Our final big sighting was one that none of us were expecting to see. We pulled over to where there was a large gathering of cars, with a sleeping leopard(豹)there! We took photos happily and excitedly and observed its surprising body before returning to our hotel as it was getting late.
