Dear Mr. Green,
I’m very exciting to learn that we will start a magazine together. That sounds great, and I definitely agree you on that.
Some of the columns what you mentioned in the letter are really my cup of tea. “Cultural Express” gives us a better understanding of the world. Since the people from different parts of the world have different values, it’s necessary to learn from each others. This will offer a wonderful chance. Apart from that, “Blurt Out” is pretty good for Chinese student to learn English idioms and improving oral English. Last but not least, “Entertainment” is so cool! The popular singers, actors or celebrities are so attractively that you absolutely can’t miss this part. Teenagers were just fond of popular things.
Well, I can’t list more. I really can’t wait to read this magazine.
Yours faithfully

Remember that where you work, you also live. Given the amount of time, you’ll be living in your workspace over the course of your lifetime. Therefore, it makes sense to add some visual appeal. The first time you see your workspace, you should feel good about it. It should be attractive to you. Really it should be your favorite place in the entire building, house, or campus. Try new furniture, photos, posters, mirrors, flowers, etc.
57 |
When you look at an untidy workspace, you’ll get a sense that the person working there is stressed, overwhelmed, and disorganized. It is believed that if you can’t organize your physical environment, you’re probably incompetent to a certain degree and can’t be trusted. It’s difficult to feel centered when you’re surrounded by unfinished tasks that constantly remind you of what you haven’t done yet. Store everything else in drawers, shelves, or cabinets. Many people notice a dramatic improvement to their productivity when they try this.
58 |
Plants are a wonderful way to add life to a lifeless workspace. Use only living, oxygen generating plants, not lifeless fake ones. Water them as needed to keep them healthy. Over time you’ll find that your plants begin to resonate(共鳴) with you and become a reflection of you. Bring yourself back to nature by adding some plants to your workspace, and you’ll find yourself enjoying the environment much more.

Australian dentist Paddy Lund has his staff bake fresh muffins(松餅) for his patients daily. Think about how a dentist’s office usually smells. Now imagine walking into one that smells of blueberry muffins. Along with other changes, this reportedly helped Mr. Lund increase his income by a factor of 10. I’m not suggesting you add a Holly Hobby Easy Bake Oven to your workspace, but there are plenty of practical ways to make it smell better than cleaning supplies.
60 |
Experiment with different types of music to see what effect they have on your stress level and productivity. Use headphones if you need to keep from disturbing others. Many people work attentively with background music on. And it is widely believed that listening to music helps increase your focus, improve your efficiency and boost your work performance.

Just before Mother’s Day I purchased the Flex Belt for my mother to help her lose some weight. I wasn’t sure if she was going to like the present but she seemed to love it. I saw the Flex Belt review on the Internet by chance and was very impressed with what I read. It seems that the Flex Belt is helping thousands of people achieve their weight loss goals.
I asked my mother a few questions about the Flex Belt such as whether this product was easy to use, whether she felt painful while using it and the most important question was whether she lost any weight. She told me that it was so easy to use, and that even a child could operate it. She also said that in the first period of using this product she did feel that it was a little bit magical and she was pleased with the amount of weight she had lost.
Over the past few years it seems that my fitness routine(健身計劃) has gone downhill(減少). I used to enjoy going to my local gym to do a bit weight lifting, or enjoy meeting up with friends once a week for a game of soccer. Recently I noticed that I became a bit “round”, so I have started to do some exercise by taking a thirty-to-forty-minute run every morning. I feel like the weight that I have put on especially around my midsection is slowly dropping off. Everyone knows the benefits of having a slim waist but it seems that we don’t actually do anything about trying to achieve this. There are a few reasons for this, such as lack of time, not being motivated(有積極性的) enough, or not having enough money to join a gym. So this is the reason I think the Flex Belt is great to own.
I am happy that my mum loves the present and because the product is working great for my mum, I’ve decide to get one for myself as well.
53. The most important question the author asked her mother was ____.
A. if she used the Flex Belt every day
B. if she felt painful while using the Flex Belt
C. whether the Flex Belt was easy to operate
D. whether the Flex Belt worked well
54. After the author’s mother had used the Flex Belt for some time she ____
A. was heartbroken B. was very delighted
C. was bored. D was disappointed
55. In the past few years the author ____.
A. has spent a great deal of time in running
B. has been playing football once a week
C. has been to her local gym many times
D. hasn’t taken exercise as often as before

Animals can move from place to place, but plants cannot. When an animal is under attack, it can run away or fight back. Plants certainly cannot run away, and they lack teeth and claws. But plants can defend themselves by using both physical and chemical means.
Some plants have their own ways to keep animals away. For example, the leaves of the holly plant have sharp spines (刺) that discourage grass-eating animals. Holly leaves on lower branches have more spines than leaves on upper branches. This is because the lower leaves are easier for most animals to reach.
Some plants, such as the oak tree, have thick and hard leaves that are difficult for animals to eat. Some grasses may contain a sandy material; eating such grasses wears down the animal's teeth.
Many plants also have chemical defenses. Some plants produce chemicals that taste bitter or cause an unpleasant reaction. Some plants may fight against an attack by increasing the production of these chemicals. When a caterpillar (毛蟲) bites a tobacco leaf, the leaf produces a chemical messenger. This messenger sends to the roots the information to produce more nicotine. The higher levels of nicotine discourage the caterpillar.
Many plants depend on both physical and chemical defenses. A certain plant in China, for instance, has prickly (多刺的) leaves, and each prickle contains poisonous venom (毒液) A single experience with this kind of plant will teach an animal to stay away from it in the future.
49. The holly plant has more spines on the lower leaves because most animals________.
A. can get the lower leaves easily B. like the lower leaves only
C. are not tall enough D. are not clever enough
50. To defend themselves, oak trees use________.
A. bitter chemicals B. sandy materials
C. chemical means D. physical means
51. How does tobacco protect itself against an attack from a caterpillar?
A. Its roots increase the production of nicotine when it is attacked
B. Its roots send a messenger to discourage the caterpillar.
C. Its leaves fight against the attack by physical means.
D. Its leaves produce poisonous sand to drive the caterpillar away.
52. What would be the best title for this passage?
A. Plants and Animals B. How Animals Eat Plant Leaves
C. Attacks and Defenses D. How Plants Defend Themselves
