Joshua, my son, is fifteen years old. He was born with Down Syndrome (唐氏綜合癥). In the last fifteen years. I have experienced many difficult and      stories. However, right now I want to just stick to the topic of     . When Joshua was born, they      us not to “waste our time, energy or money". They claimed that our son would never accomplish anything. They told us he would never walk, talk or learn to use the toilet.     , we were not about to accept the words. However, we weren’t really sure what to expect.
Therefore, we expected him to develop at his own pace, with a lot of help and encouragement, but only to develop little. We decided that      we saw progress we could never give up. Very early on, we knew in our hearts that we had to have high expectations, but how high? We could not set goals for him that he could not ever possibly reach.     , if we did not have high hopes, the chances would be very slim for him to work to his potential.
When Joshua was four and a half years old, his younger sister, CJ, was three and attended the same preschool in a younger class. The school      an art contest and all the children in it presented pictures. The pictures were hung on the wall and the president of the local church, who was not personally      with the children, was appointed to be the     .
On the day of the contest, I made my      through the crowded parents to see CJ’s picture,      it was likely to be hung there, but Joshua's class pictures were not yet up and I didn’t think twice about seeing his picture      leaving the building. You see, I had no expectation that Joshua would win; it was      for me to know that he was able to draw a picture and have it      with those of the other children.
Well, when I returned to      the kids, you can image my      when I discovered that Joshua was the winner from his class! Proud and excited, he told everyone, “I won the contest! I      it! ”
CJ kept insisting that she had won too and it was certainly a      feeling to know that Joshua had achieved something that his  sister had not. After that I decided to keep my expectations     . It seems that most people work to whatever expectations are set for them. Why should Joshua be any     ?

In a small open courtyard, outside a school building, there were flowers here and there. In the sunshine,a        was lying on the grass, reading a book with        concentration.       I watched this scene on a morning in May years ago, it        to me that a visitor here would        have thought he had entered a formal school. He would have been even more      if he had been told that the children he was        came from different kinds of academic levels.
That        has been staying with me ever since. I have been        about some problems. Why in many schools are our children        asked to acquire skills in a way        from a real-life context(情境)? Why does a        school child so often become a defeated school failure?
Developmental psychologist Margaret Donald once said, “      of the intellectual framework (知識(shí)框架) on which we        our teaching is misleading.” In my opinion, a child learns everything in human situation. And if every child could learn in the same way as the children in the school I visited, they would develop better.

閱讀下面短文,掌握其大意,從文后所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C、D)中,選出一個(gè)可以填入空白處的最佳答案。
My friend Michelle is blind, but you’d never know it. She makes such good use of her other      , including her“sixth sense”, that she rarely gives the impression that she's       anything.
Michelle looks after her children pretty much like the rest of us,     that she doesn't push too hard on them,        really benefit a lot from her relaxed attitude. She knows when to clean the house, and she moves around so fast that        often don't realize she's blind.
I    this the first time after my six-year-old daughter, Kayla, went to play there. When Kayla came home, she was very      about her day. She told me they had baked cookies, played games and done art projects. But she was      excited about her finger-painting project.
“Mom, guess what?” said Kayla, all smiles. “I learned how to       colors today! Blue and red make purple, and yellow and blue make green! And Michelle      with us”.
To my great      , my child had learned about color from a blind friend! Then Kayla continued, “Michelle told me my      showed joy, pride and a sense of accomplishment. She really       what I was doing!” Kayla said she had never known how good finger paints felt       Michelle showed her how to paint without looking at her paper.
I realized Kayla didn't know that Michelle was blind. It had just never       in conversation. When I told my daughter that Michelle was blind, she was       for a moment. At first, she didn't believe me. “But Mommy, Michelle knew exactly what was in my picture!” Kayla      . And I knew my child was      because Michelle had listened to Kayla describe her art work. Michelle had also heard Kayla's      in her work.
We were silent for a minute. Then Kayla said slowly, “You know, Mommy, Michelle really did ‘see’ my picture. She just used my       .”
Indeed, she uses a special type of “vision” that all mothers have.

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, impolite waiter, rude boss,or an insensitive employee      your day?
One day I was in a taxi and we headed    __ the airport. We were driving in the       lane when suddenly a black car drove out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, slide sideways, and at the very last moment our car stopped and narrowly      the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car looked around and started      at us.
My taxi driver just      and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really     . So I asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call “The Law of the Garbage Truck”.
He    that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of    ,full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage      up,they need a place to dump (倒) it and sometimesthey’ll dump it on     . Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Believe me. You’ll be more   . Don’t take their garbage and      it to other people at work,at home,or on the streets, Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with     . The mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on what’s      in your life. Roy Baumeister,a psychology researcher from Florida State University, found in his extensive research that you      bad things more often than good things in your life. You store the bad memories rather easily, and you      them more frequently.
So...Love the people who treat you right. Ignore the ones who don’t. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you      it!
When you follow “The Law of the Garbage Truck”,you take back control of your life. You make room for the good by      go of the bad. Have a Garbage Free Day!Have a marvelous,garbage-free day!The seeds you plant today      the harvest you reap tomorrow.

Our tolerating ability is indeed beyond our imagination. But not until the very critical moment will we realize our    tolerating ability.
There was a woman in the countryside who had to     with her children wherever she could at the age of 26 due to the Japanese army’s    . Many people could not bear the     and wanted to commit suicide. After she knew about it, she would come to those people and      them by saying, “Don’t do that silly thing. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome. The Japanese armies are sure to be     one day!”
Finally she insisted until the day when all the Japanese armies were kicked out of China. However, her son died of disease without     medicine and nutrition in those days of hardships. Her husband lay in bed for two days without eating and drinking    . She teared to her husband and said, “We have a tough    , but however tough our lives will be, we should never    . Though our son has passed away, we can have another. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome.”
After giving birth to the second son, her husband died of edema(水腫), which    blew her away. But eventually, she     and hugged the three young children, saying, “My sweet hearts, don’t feel scared. You still have me, your dear mum!”
It took her painstaking efforts to raise her children up and the life of her family was getting    . She was aging     and could not do the farm work any more.     she stayed at home and did some housework. Nevertheless, the Heaven     to show no affection to her who had undergone a rough life. She lived until 86. Before she went to Heaven, she said to her children, “You all should live     your best. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome!”
We will     get to realize our own iron will and strong tolerating     after getting stricken heavily. Therefore, no matter what you are suffering from now, do not merely complain about the     of our destiny.
