2.Wrong Reasons for Going to College
A college education can be priceless.(16)GIf any of these following factors had a big influence on your decision,you're probably right to second-guess yourself.
◆Because someone else expects it from you.
Perhaps you come from a family where everyone goes to college.Or maybe,you're the kid that everyone is proud to believe will be the first to get there.(17)E.It's become so much a part of the air you breathe that you've never stopped to consider whether you want to go or whether you're ready to go.
◆Because all your friends are going.
In only a few weeks'time,the whole friend group will be scattered to a half dozen different colleges in a half dozen different places.(18)BFriends would wonder what's wrong with you.Some would take it as a betrayal of the dreams you've dreamed together and the plans you've made.
◆(19)C
It's been tough to find even a summer job.You don't have an alternative plan.Everyone else is doing it (see above).You think you might as well go to school.That is the lamest of reasons to spend $20,000or more in the next year.
◆Because you are afraid you'll regret it if you don't go.
Your uncle tells you that his one regret in life is that he didn't go to college.Others tell you that they could have gone so much farther in their career if only they had a college education.(20)F So this is not a persuasive reason for you to go to college.

A That's much too fine.
B Not to go would be set yourself apart.
C Because you don't know what else to do.
D Everyone seems more excited than you are.
E It seems that for years everyone has just assumed that of course you'll go.
F Whatever the story is,there are always people who regret decisions they've made.
G But maybe in your heart you know that you are going for the wrong reasons.

When I was little, I always wanted a luxurious house. That was my idea to be successful. I took all the classes with full carefulness and tried to do well in the exams with my mind set on going to a key school. I just knew that I would somehow become famous and be able to afford the dream house. All the way through junior years, my mind was planning this wonderful future.

Then in the tenth grade, many losses changed my mind. First, one of my friends died at 16. Soon after, my great-grandmother passed away, followed by my beloved fourth-grade teacher. These events left me not knowing what to do or where to go. Death had never touched me so closely.

After a long period of emptiness, it finally struck me: Life is not promised and neither is future success. Though I was attempting to achieve material success, I was not enjoying my daily life. I realized that finding inner peace, purpose and happiness will stick with me forever and that is real success.

Enjoying life's precious quirks(偶發(fā)事件) makes an ordinary person more successful than a wealthy person who isn't content and takes everything for granted. The summer before senior years, my attitude changed greatly. Instead of memorizing facts, I began learning skills. Instead of focusing on the future, I focused on today and the many blessings and successes that came with it.

I still get excellent grades, but now I devote weeks to studying instead of struggling for exams, and I think about the future with a deeper sense of meaning. For me, being successful means truly living life each day.

14.People are being lured (引誘)onto Facebook with the promise of a fun,free service without realizing they're paying for it by giving up large amounts of personal information.Facebook then attempts to make money by selling their data to advertisers that want to send targeted messages.
Most Facebook users don't realize this is happening.Even if they know what the company is up to,they still have no idea what they're paying for Facebook because people don't really know what their personal data is worth.
The biggest problem,however,is that the company keeps changing the rules.Early on,you keep everything private.That was the great thing about facebook-you could create your own little private network.Last year,the company changed its privacy rules so that many things-your city,your photo,your friends'names-were set,by default (默認(rèn))to be shared with everyone on the Internet.
According to Facebook's vice-president Elliot Schrage,the company is simply making changes to improve its service,and if people don't share information,they have a"less satisfying experience".
Some critics think this is more about Facebook looking to make more money.Its original business model,which involved selling ads and putting them at the side of the page,totally failed.Who wants to look at ads when they're online connecting with their friends?
The privacy issue has already landed Facebook in hot water in Washington.In April.Senator Charles Schumer called on Facebook to change its privacy policy.He also urged the Federal Trade Commission to set guidelines for social-networking sites."I think the senator rightly communicated that we had not been clear about what the new products were and how people could choose to use them or not to use them,"Schrage admits.
I suspect that whatever Facebook has done so far to invade our privacy,it's only the beginning,which is why I'm considering deactivating(撤銷)my account.Facebook is a handy site,but I'm upset by the idea that my information is in the hands of people I don't know.That's too high a price to pay.

66.What do we learn about Facebook from the first paragraph?C
A.It is a website that sends messages to targeted users.
B.It makes money by putting on advertisements.
C.It profits by selling its users'personal data.
D.It provides loads of information to its users.
67.What does the author say about most Facebook users?B
A.They are reluctant to give up their personal information.
B.They don't know their personal data enriches Facebook.
C.They don't identify themselves when using the website.
D.They care very little about their personal information.
68.Why does Senator Charles Schumer propose?C
A.Setting guidelines for advertising on websites.
B.Banning the sharing of users'personal information.
C.Working out regulations for social-networking sites.
D.Removing ads from all social-networking sites.
69.Why does the author plan to cancel his Facebook account?C
A.He is dissatisfied with its current service.
B.He finds many of its users untrustworthy.
C.He doesn't want his personal data to be used in a wrong way.
D.He is upset by its frequent rule changes.

12.One of the best-known proverbs must be"Early to bed,early to rise,making a man healthy,wealthy and wise".The promise of health,wealth and wisdom to those who join the ranks of the early retirees and risers must be particularly appealing to many people in our modern society.There is no doubt that one of the greatest concerns(關(guān)心) of modern man is his health.It is estimated that in the United States $200billion is spent on health care each year.The medical field has grown into such a big business that it employs 4.8million people; and it appears that in many places,more staff is needed to meet the demands of the people who are concerned about their physical well-being.?
Much more interest has been shown in preventive medicine in recent years.This is probably due in part to the increasing costs of medical treatment,but the writings of such people as Dr.Kenneth Cooper have also played an important role.In his book Aerobics Dr Cooper communicated his message of the benefits(好處) of exercise so effectively that many other authors have followed in his trail,and literally millions of readers have put on their sports shoes and taken to the highways and byways of America.A recent survey showed that over 17 million people are jogging.Many of these are so serious that they have trained themselves to run the 26 miles and 385 yards of the hard and tiring marathons that are organized all over the country.The last time I was in Honolulu,I was greatly surprised to see hundreds of people,young and old,running for their lives,and I discovered many of them have run in the Hawaiian Marathon.?
Exercise has also become a major part of conversation.At a dinner party recently,the president of a bank asked me,"You look like a runner; how far do you run each day?"A few days later when I appeared on a national television show,the host suddenly asked me if I was a regular runner.On both occasions the conversation turned to the subject of exercise and I found,as I have found whenever I have traveled recently,that this is a subject of being on many people's minds.Of course,there are still many people who are less than enthusiastic about exercise.They appreciate the philosophy of Robert M.Hutchins who said,"Whenever the thought of exercise occurs to me,I lie down till it passes."

32.The first paragraph suggests that medical workersA.
A.a(chǎn)re in great need
