3.What do they really mean?
Food manufacturers and retailers are letting shoppers down. This is the view of the CWS,which has just brought out a new report.
According to the report, shoppers believe food labels because they think there are strict regulations in place.(50)E.So the food industry can get away with all sorts of tricky strategies to make products look bigger and sound better than they are.
The report has identified the different ways in which shoppers are misled.(51)G.Descriptions on packaging are sometimes inaccurate in an attempt to oversell the product. One example given in the report is the phrase"haddock fillets",used for a product that is in fact cut from big blocks of fish rather than individual slices.
(52)A.These include"traditional","wholesome",or"premium".The claim that a brand is"90% fat-free"hides the fact that it contains 10% fat, which above recommended levels.Phrases such as"free from preservatives"make a virtue out of a normal attribute of food.
Labels have a wide variety of text sizes on them. You sometimes need a magnifying glass to read the small print.(53)D.
Another deliberate type of misinformation lies in the image. Many pictures on packets use small plates to make the product look bigger.(54)C.
However, misleading messages on packaging could soon be a thing of the past. The CWS recently produced a code which,if used, would end the current inaccuracies and half truths. It has called on the government to support it as a way of improving food standards.

A.Meaningless adjectives are often used to give a positive message.
B.An officer says the labels will receive very serious consideration.
C.Photographs are sometimes retouched to achieve the same effect.
D.By contrast, the hard sell information is given emphasis.
E.The rules are,in reality,very weak at present.
F.This result has not pleased the food industry.
G.The most common of these is poor labeling.

2.A.Classroom participation
B.Differences in American university education
C.Examination system
D.Competition among students
E.Honest policy in students'school work
F.Students'responsibility for learning
61.B
There is considerable variety in university classrooms in the United States.Because of diverse teaching methods and non-standardized curricula (課程),no two courses are the same.Undergraduate courses are considerable different from graduate courses. The classroom atmosphere in expensive, private universities may differ from that in community colleges, which are free and open to everyone.
62.A
Participation in the classroom is not only accepted but also expected of the student in many courses. Some professors base part of the final grade on the student's oral participation.Although there are formal lectures during which the student has a passive role (i.e.,listening and taking notes),many courses are organized around classroom discussions, student questions, and informal lectures.
63.F
Many teachers believe that the responsibility for learning lies with the student.(Courses are not designed merely for students to pass exams.) The ideal student is considered to be one who is motivated to learn for the sake of learning, not the one interested only in getting high grades.
64.E
Ideally, the teacher-student relationship at universities is characterized by trust. Thus, cheating on tests, plagiarizing (抄襲) in written work, presenting other's ideas as original, and turning in homework completed by someone else are all prohibited (禁止).
65.D
Relationships between students in the classroom can be cooperative or competitive.International students should not hesitate to ask for help if it is needed. In classes where such a grading curve is used, students may be reluctant to share lecture notes or information for fear that their own grades will suffer.

1.(71)EYou probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so,however.Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to.Here's how:Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do.After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time.First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying.(72)BA weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you realize what is happening to your time.Find a good place to study.Look around the house for a good study area.Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios,or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.Make good use of your time in class.(73)CListening carefully in class means less work later.Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.Study regularly. When you get home from school,go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material.(74)GIf you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you'll remember it longer.Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won't end if you don't pass a test,so don't be over worried.(75)AYou will probably discover them after you have tried these.

A.There are other methods that might help you with your studying.
B.Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment.
C.Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says.
D.No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.
E.Maybe you are an average student.
F.Make full use of class time to take notes of.

19.
A.Be well-organized.
B.Close with a Q & A.
C.Don't be contradictory.
D.Bring it to a specific end.
E.Speak slowly and pause.
F.Drop unnecessary words.
Speaking to a group can be difficult, but listening to a bad speech is truly a tiresome task-especially when the speaker is confusing.Don't want to confuse your audience?Follow these suggestions:
76.E
When it comes to understanding new information, the human brain needs a little time.First,we hear the words; then,we compare the new information to what we already know.If the two are different,we need to pause and think. But a breathless speaker never stops to let us think about what he or she is saying and risks confusing us.Slow it.
77.C
Sometimes we all start a sentence one way and then switch directions, which is very difficult to follow. When you confuse your listeners with opposing information, you leave the audience wondering what part of the information is right and what part they should remember.Instead of relying and keeping correcting yourself, work to get the facts clear and straight.
78.A
Jumping from point to point as it comes to your mind puts the onus (責(zé)任)on your listeners to make up for your lack of organization. And it's confusing for them to listen, reorganize, and figure out what you're saying all at once. But going smoothly from one point to the next helps them understand information more easily. You can arrange things from beginning to end, small to large, top to bottom or by some other order.Just be sure to organize.
79.F
Repeated use of um,ah,like, you know and some other useless noises can drive an audience crazy. It makes the speaker sound uncertain and unprepared, and it can leave listeners so annoyed that they can't pay attention.Recently I attended a speech that was marked by so many ums that audience members were rolling their eyes. Was anybody grasping the intended message?Um,probably not.
80.D
Many speakers finish up their speeches with question-and-answer (Q & A) sessions, but some let the Q & A go on without a clear end.The audience is often left confused about whether the meeting is over and when they can get up and leave.Do your listeners a favour by setting a time limit on questions, and close your speech with a specific signal-even if it's something simple like,"If you have any more questions, you know where to reach me."Or even more to the point, conclude your speech with"Thanks for your time."

16.Telephone,television,radio,telegraph and the Internet all help people communicate with each other. As a result, ideas and news of events spread quickly all over the world. For example, within seconds, people can know the results of an election in another country. An international football match comes into the homes of everyone with a television set.News of a disaster such as an earthquake or a flood can bring help from distant countries within hours.Help is on the way.Because modern technology like the satellites travels all over the world, information travels fast.
How has this speed of communication changed the world? To many people, the world has become smaller.Of course this does not mean that the world is actually physically smaller. It means that the world seems smaller. Two hundred years ago, communication between the continents took a long time. All news was carried on ships that took weeks or even months to cross the ocean. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries,it took six weeks for news from Europe to reach America. This time difference influenced people's actions. For example, one battle,or fight,in the War of 1812 between England and the United States could have been avoided.A peace agreement had already been signed.Peace was made in England, but the news of peace took six weeks to reach America.During these six weeks, the large and serious Battle of New Orleans was fought. Many people lost their lives after a peace treaty (條約)had been signed. In the past, communication took much more time than it does now.
There was a good reason why the world seemed so much larger than it does today.
