Millions∧teenagers live at homes without the Internet. The American government want to
do something to change this. It says it was important for teenagers to learn online skills in
order to keep up to the modern world.Have the Internet can also help people save money,
let them to search for bargains and pay bills online. So they're setting up specially online
centers.People∧don't have the web at home can get online in those centers.As well as
saving money, the Internet is now one of the main way that people communicate with each
other. The government also believes that people who don't have the Internet can get leaving
behind their friends who do.
1.Millions 后加of   考查固定短語(yǔ)   millions of意為:數(shù)以百萬(wàn)計(jì)的,許許多多的;故在Millions 后加of.
3.was改為is    考查時(shí)態(tài)    根據(jù)上下文都使用了一般現(xiàn)在時(shí)可知,此處介紹的是美國(guó)政府現(xiàn)在的看法;故用is.
4.to改為with    考查固定短語(yǔ)    keep up with意為:跟上,不落在…
Having.
6.去掉them后面的to    考查固定短語(yǔ)    let sb.do sth.
8.People 后加who   考查關(guān)系代詞     本句為定語(yǔ)從句;由于先行詞People指人,并且在該從句中作主語(yǔ),故用關(guān)系代詞who.

20.Monitoring the mood of a pet dog could be used as an early warning sign that an elderly owner is struggling to cope,a new report has claimed.
Researchers placed movement sensors on dogs to track their behaviour and identified 17 distinct activities, including chewing, barking, sitting and digging. This allowed them to map the normal behaviour of a healthy, happy dog, which means any changes can be monitored and could indicate an issue with their owner.
Nils Hammerla, part of the team from Newcastle University, said,"Humans and dogs have lived together in close relationships for thousands of years, which has led to strong emotional and social mutual bonds."
"A dog's physical and emotional dependence on their owner means that their wellbeing is likely to reflect that of their owner.Any changes such as the dog being walked less often, perhaps not being fed regularly,or simply demonstrating"unhappy"behaviour could be an early indicator for families that an older relative needs help. This is the first system of its kind which allows us to remotely monitor a dog's behaviour in its natural setting."
The team of academics, who presented their findings at the 2013 UbiComp conference in Zurich, created a hitech, waterproof dog collar for the study.
Dr Cas Ladha, who led the study, said:"A lot of our research is focused on developing intelligent systems that can help older people to live independently for longer.
But developing a system thatreassures family and carers that an older relative is well without intruding on (侵犯) the individual's privacy is difficult. This is just the first step but the idea behind this research is that it would allow us to support people without the need for cameras."
A range of dogs was used for the study,as the team needed to map distinct behaviours that correlated between different breeds.

1.New crime predicton software should reduce not only the murder rate,but the rate of other crimes.Developed by Richard Berk,a professor at the University of Pennsylvania,the software has already used in Baltimore and Philadelphia to predict which individuals on probation(緩刑) or parole(假釋) are most likely to murder and to be murdered.
"When a person goes on probation or parole he is supervised(監(jiān)督) by an officer.The question is‘what level of supervision is appropriate?'"said Berk.It used to be that parole officers used the person's criminal record,and their judgment to make decisions.
"This research replaces those seat-of-pants calculations,"he said.
Technology helps determine level of supervision.On average there is one murder for every 100,000people.Even among high-risk groups the murder rate is one in 100.Predicting such a rare event is very difficult,but advances in computer technology orks.
Years ago,the researchers made a dataset of more than 60,000various crimes.Using the software they developed,they found some much more likely to commit murder when paroled or probated.They could identify eight future murderers out of 100.
Berk's software examines roughly two dozen variables(可變因素),from criminal record to geographic location.The type of crimes,and more importantly,the age at which that crime was committedwere two of the most predictive variables.
"People assume that if someone murdered then they will murder in the future,"said Berk."What really matters is what that person did as a young individual.Predicting future crimes sounds well.But we aren't anywhere near being able to do that."
"Berk's scientific answer leaves policymakers with difficult questions.By labeling one group of people as high risk,and supervise them closely,there should be fewer murders,which the potential victims should be happy about.It also means that those high-risk individuals will be supervised more aggressively.For human rights advocates,that means punishing people who,most likely,will not commit a crime in the future,"said Bushway."It comes down to a question of whether you would rather make these errors or those errors."
25.The underlined words(in Para.3)probably meanA.
A.calculations based on subjective opinions
B.calculations based on widespread voting
C.calculations made by advanced technology
D.calculations based on serious considering
26.For 650people with crime records,how many potential murderers would the software find?C
A.65.B.13.C.52.D.65.
27.From Para 7,we can infer thatB.
A.the technology developed by Richard Berk will soon be widely used in the US
B.the technology would not be widely accepted in the short term
C.whether a person murders or not largely decidd by his upbringing while young
D.if a person murdered when he was fifty,he is sure to murder again while on probation
28.Which would be the best title for the passage?D
A.Closely Supervise Potential Murders
B.Measures Taken to Prevent Criminal Behavior
C.Technology Revolutionizes Judges'Way of Working
D.Software is Developed to Predict Criminal Behavior.

This,of course,turned out to be untrue.Within a few hours the Titanic was not only sinking,but faster than most people had time to react.Added to this was the fact that there were not enough lifeboats to take all the passengers to shore.If that was not enough,when the emergency(緊急) call to get on the deck(甲板) came,Gorge realized that his sister Phoebe was missing.
