6、 People like to celebrate when they move into a new home. Maybe it’s the first flat someone has owned,a couple’s first home since getting married or maybe a growing family has moved to a bigger house. For whatever reason, the home is new. It represents a change and an exciting new beginning, with walls to paint, rooms to decorate and neighbors to meet. And what better way to meet people than to throw a party?
Parties to celebrate moving into a new home are called "house一warming" or“flat一warming" parties. If you think about it,they,re appropriate names because an empty house with no people or furniture in it is a cold shell of a place. A house full of people,on the other hand, often requires some open windows or air conditioning to keep from getting too hot.
So what are house一warming parties like? Usually, the hosts invite their new neighbors as well as their friends. They usually provide some food and drinks and guests usually bring house一warming gifts. The gift might be something for the house, like a plant,or something for the guests to share, like a bottle of wine. There may be a dress code or theme. For example,if it is a“Hat Party",people will wear unusual or funny hats. This helps break the ice by making people laugh. This makes it easier to meet new people and creates a fun and cheerful atmosphere.
"There’s an old saying that“home is where the heart is".When people throw a house一warming party, they’re opening their hearts as well as their homes to the people around them. So if you’re ever invited by new neighbors to a house一warming,go!Then invite them to your home another time. Your home might already be warm, but new friends are the surest way to warm your heart.

4、 Many of you may think healthy eating means you have to replace the foods you love with
those you don’t.
The truth, though,is that keeping a healthy diet can be fun. Just ask Julie Upton,an ex-pert on nutrition and health in the US. Upton wants to advise teens everywhere to eat
healthier. She gives some suggestions on how to do just that.
Q:What motivations should you keep in mind to eat healthy?
A:I suggest setting goals for yourself. For example, it may be a goal to have one piece of fruit with lunch every day for a month, or to avoid eating fast food completely for the next month. Also focus on telling yourself,“What I eat now will affect how I look and feel a few
weeks from now,or how well I perform at school or in sports.”
Q:What nutrients should teens consume every day?
A:It depends on if you are a boy or a girl and how active you are. The best place to find
your ideal nutrient requirements is www. my pyramid. gov. Enter your gender(sex),age and
activity level. It will tell you how many calories you need a day. It will also break that into
how many servings of each of the food groups those calories should come from.
In general, most teens need about 2,500 to 3,500 calories every day.
Q:What can teens do to make healthy snacking a fun habit?
A:Teens are influential. Your good habits can influence lots of people, including your friend, younger sisters and brothers. You could do challenges with friends about eating better. I think any way you can involve your friends, will help you succeed.
Also get your family in on the health pleasure. If your parents do the food shopping, they have to know what to buy,so you need to tell them that you want healthier foods at home.
1.In which column of a newspaper can you probably read this article?
A.Science Life B.Campus Trends
C.Culture Leisure D.Commercial World
2.What is the person who asks the three questions?
A.An expert on nutrition and health. B.A patient requiring many calories.

3.To keep healthy,teens .

B.need about 2500 to 3500 calories every week
C.can pay little attention to their relatives’ and friends’ influence
D.a(chǎn)re suggested keeping certain motivations in mind
4.Which of the following statements would the author of this essay agree with?
A.You can eat healthily, but not pleasantly at the same time.
B.You don’t have to give up your favourite foods in order to eat healthy.
C.Your gender has no effect on what nutrients you should consume every day.
D.Www. my pyramid. gov is a website meant for teens only.

3、 If you’re looking for the thrill of a lifetime, running with the bull、should be near the top of your list!Thousands of tourists flock to Spain each year to run with the bulls, but it isn’t exactly a walk in the park—it’s actually an extremely dangerous sport!
The running of the bulls takes place every July during the San Fermin Festival in Pamplona,Spain, Traditionally, the public has an opportunity to run with the bulls down a half 一mile stretch of cobbled(用圓石頭砌路的)road, which ends in a bull fighting ring. It happens at 8 AM every morning for a week straight and each race lash two to three minutes. The run started in the mid 1800s when officials would take the bulls from the edge of town to the bull ring(圓形場地)in the center of the city. Before long, people started to join the bulls in the run.
There are plenty of risks going into this event. Participating in the run means risking a pile一up,which can lead to injury or death of both the bulls and the runners. With so many people running in a panic,it can be complete chaos out there. As part of the preparation for the annual event, barricades(路障)are placed on each side of the street so people can easily exit the race.
There are a few key things to remember about participating in the running of the bulls. You should never try to catch a bull’s attention because a bull runs down the path as fast as possible until it reaches its destination. If it is bothered,it will separate from the rest of the bulls and that could spell trouble!Other ways you can avoid injury and chaos are to avoid touching the bulls, run behind them, and make sure not to bother the drovers who lead the bulls to the arena(斗牛場).

2、 ATLANTA,Georgia— Alternative medicine— including yoga, meditation, herbs (草藥)and the Atkins diet(艾特金斯飲食法)—-appears to be growing in popularity in the United States, perhaps because of dissatisfaction with conventional(傳統(tǒng)的)care, the government said Thursday.
More than a third of American adults used such practices in 2002,according to the government survey of 31,000 people, the largest study on non一conventional medical approaches in the United States. If prayer is included, about 62 percent of U. S. adults used some form of alternative medicine.
The results seem to indicate more people are turning to alternative medicine, though the 2002 survey could not be directly compared to previous studies because of differences in size and survey methods, health officials said.
The top alternative therapies(療法)included prayer (43 percent of adults) , natural products(19 percent),meditation(8 percent)and diets such as Atkins,Ornish,or the Zone (4 percent).
More people also are using natural products such as herbs or enzymes(酶)to treat chronic or recurring pain(慢性或經(jīng)常性疼痛),said Richard Nahin of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health.
“Many conditions are not easily treated with conventional medicine,”Nahin said.“It may be the public that is turning to complementary(補充的)and alternative medicine because it's not getting relief from conventional medicine.”
But people should not be turning away from conventional treatments that are proven safe, said Dr. Stephen Straus, director of the alternative medicine center.
“People are making individual decisions to neglect those therapies and we have concerns about those choices,”he said.
Health officials said they were concerned that 13 percent of those surveyed said they turned to alternative medicine because regular medicine is too expensive.
“It needs to be explored—we need to find out whether they were insured or not” Nahin said.
Health officials also were surprised that 6.6 percent of those surveyed used the supplement kava kava(卡瓦提取物,用來治療焦慮癥和憂郁癥),which has been associated with liver disease.
“People make the assumption that because something is natural that it’s safe” Nahin said. “But a number of studies have shown that natural products can be unsafe when used inappropriately or with other drugs.”
He said people considering using alternative medicine should consult their doctor first.

A.because it has been proven safe to take
B.because experts confirm it all-sidedly
C.because they are not content with the conventional medicine

A.Most patients are blind in taking alternative medicine or conventional care.
B.Experts still haven't drawn an all-round and exact conclusion about alternative medicine.
C.Alternative medicine will eventually take place of conventional care.
D.Natural herbs are safer than the medicine processed by man.
4.Which of the following agrees with the article?
A.Experts will carry out further studies on alternative medicine.
B.Health officials worry about using the alternative medicine will be removed.
C.The supplement kava kava is more effective to anxiety disease.

He believed that too many people mistake the events in their own nervous systems for events in the outside world .
